Jumpy passenger side window

This summer I noticed that my passenger side windows were behaving a little odd. When the weather was very hot and the car was left out in the sun, I found that rolling down the windows wasn't a problem, but pushing them back up was, mainly with my passenger side.
When the switch was deployed to move the passenger window upward (although it did occasionally happen on the driver side window), the window would jump/hop upward in a choppy motion. Depending on the heat, the choppiness would be worse. Now that the weather has cooled, the window still has issues, but not quite as bad as when the heat was so intense.
Does something internal need to be cleaned or is my window motor (which I read are problematic in general) about to go?

Thank you!

This is pretty similar to how my drivers side window acted before going out.

Unfortunately, mine went out completely (in the down position) at an airport ticket booth during a rain storm. :( So the Coop had to live with a plastic trash bag over the window at the airport until I could get back home later that evening, remove the door panel and push it up manually. The fix was not so bad, just semi annoying.

Good luck, I hope yours is just grime that needs to be cleaned and not something more.

cheers,

dag

Hi daglafe,
Bummer on the timing of your window motor. I'm hoping that mine doesn't do the same, but, odds are, it will be raining. I do live in Portland, after all
Did you purchase a new window motor and replace it yourself? If so, where did you nab your motor at?

Might want to try the Fonzy thump above the speaker on the door.

are you sure its not the plastic trim on the window sil catching it? i found that mine does that on a hot day too and it sounds like its skipping up. I just applied some plastic conditioner to soften it up and it doesnt do that anymore.

Victa, I don't think it's catching on the window sill. Today is a warm one so I'll give it a test. Something tells me that if anything, it could be on the inside.
Oh, also, to perhaps give credence to my thought that the motor could be going out, it has a high pitched whine associated with either up or down. Hmmmm....

I'm hoping that it is just catching or something, but if it is your motor then here is what I found for parts:

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...dow_motor.html

They have been consistantly pretty competitive or low on prices.

The fix itself was not terribly difficult, there are some tutorials that can be found on this site I think. There was limited space to work with, but mine turned out fine.

Best of luck.

dag
