Daniel,
Welcome to the site. The wait really depends on where you are located, what your dealer is like, and if you are willing to buy your MINI elsewhere. For example our local dealership in Denver still has a pretty lengthy wait but MINI of the Hamptons (a sponsor of the site) has vehicles and can ship them anywhere in the country for less than $1000. If you are in a similar situation, or even if MINI of the Hamptons is local to you I would encourage you to contact them. Let them know that you heard about them on North American Motoring. They can be found in our sponsor directory HERE.
Again welcome to the site!
Best regards,
Mark

cypher,
Aloha and welcome to northamericanmotoring.com the home of MINI enthusiasts from across the US, Canada and Mexico, etc.
We are glad to hear from you and please feel free to read through the 1000s of threads we have here covering all facets of MINIs. Not everything will make sense right away. If something is puzzling send me an PM (private mail).
When ready ask a question on the forums but usually what happens is the same questions are asked over and over.
Wait times will vary from location to location sometimes as little as 2-3 months and often up to 10 months on the west coast. Other areas have little or no wait or you can buy one at MSRP and ship it across the country for less than $1000 as mentioned from several sources.
Your homework is to read read and read. Then go for a test drive. Cooper in 5 speed or CVT (automatic) or Cooper S in 6 speed manual.
Most of all have fun. After you order your MINI you can spend your waiting time checking this site and passing the time. It will go quickly.
Take care.

Well I want a high performance car.... BMW is not an option for me.. coz I am just graduate from University of Oregon and got a Job offer as a Software Engineer.... I don't think my salary could afford bmw so my option is Mini cooper S... which cost around 23k..... plus I watch Italian Job.... and Vioala .... I am a Mini Fans....
Since I live in Oregon.. my option would be Rassmusen Mini...
I Read in the Dealer Rating system that some peple got like 2 years waiting......
well if that the case probably i will buy Mini from dealers in california .... ???
well we'll see about that...

Cypher, sorry to disappoint, but us Californians are going out of state because of the long waits. So don't go south, go East!
I live in Los Angeles, but bought my MC from Roadshow MINI in Memphis, TN. I drove it back 4551 miles!
Welcome to the forums, btw!

Welcome to North American Motoring!
You will love reading up on the MINI during the time you are waiting to order your MINI. I decided last Nov to get a MINI when my lease ran out this Dec. I ordered my MINI in July and it's just arrived at the dealer! I hope to pick it up one day this coming week!
During the months that I waited to order my MINI, I read as much as I could here on the forum. I researched every option I wanted and every package offered.
I agonized over the color for several months!
Yes, the color combo was the hardest part!!
Welcome again! You will love it here!

well here in northern virginia, the wait for a cooper s is around 6 months and for the regular cooper is around 2-3 months. once awhile they do have cooper and cooper s selling right off the floor (reason: someone decided not to take delivery of the car) for $5000-$6000 above msrp . i guess someone wanted really bad and didn't care for the personalized options...

Welcome to MC..Oh...North American Motoring.com.....
You can order your MINI from Otto's MINI in West Chester, PA and I'll happily drive it to Oregon. I have a good friend that lives in Portland. OK, so I'm a jive turkey and will have to learn to drive stick before I go, but whatever.

Hi Daniel-
It really depends on the dealer. Here in California they will normally quote you $3,000 to $6,000 over MSRP. It will never be below MSRP. There IS one dealer, Long Beach MINI, that charges MSRP only, but that also means their waiting list is very long! MCS's are said to take a year or longer to order! One dealer, Nick Alexander Imports told me $3,000 for a Cooper, and once we got down to negotiating, they were willing to come down to $1,500. They tried to rationalize this me by saying floor mats were included!!! Those are pretty expensive floor mats. Other dealers will force you to include LoJack or some after market addition in the $3,000. Bottom line, is that unless you are willing to pay atleast $1,500 over MSRP, CA isn't the best place to go.
I chose to spend that $1,500 on motels and food, and made an incredible 11 day roadtrip around the USA! It was well worth it! Driving across country is like being a celebrity--you are greeted and approached by so many people everywhere. They are far too common in CA for people to care much anymore.
Good luck!
