>> Did you find the suction cups wearing prematurely? I found that after putting it on and taking it off, every time I stopped, or leaving it on in the sun, I had to moisten the cups to get them to stick properly. That worried me too!

I ordered extras when my boss got his V1. There are only $2.00 per set but the shipping cost was, well, more than the cups. My first set lasted me about 3 years of permanent wear. I am on my second set now and yes, moistening the cups prior to placement does help. I am not sure why it worried you though??

I am going to try the Octane stuff this weekend after skiing to see what it works like after skiing. I'll let you know...

Thanks!

Oh it worried me only because the first set I used (the V1 came with an extra set), stopped sticking even with moisture. I would be driving and one side would come off, and I'd fumble trying to get it back in place again. And that was only after 2 weeks. So I wasn't sure how long these would last given that problem I had.

re: Skiing
Ooooo, fun!!!! Works great! I used it back in January, the last time I hit the slopes. Even though it's cold outside, unless you ski in the buff , you'll be pretty bundled up, and it'll provide a welcome relief especially after a long day of skiing. But please do let me know your thoughts, and stay safe!!

For those not yet convinced of the Valentine One's superiority check out this independent test.

In over four years of V-1 use, not a single ticket (touch wood). I'm lucky too in that the Valentine One factory is just a couple of miles from where I work. Been there a time or two, yes they will update/upgrade the V-1 with the newest radar and laser detection equipment, though it ain't cheap to do so. Also, at least for will call folk, there is usually a refurbished / returned unit or two for sale at the factory at a decent discounted price. I think mine was $100 under list.

I know everyone loves their V1's, although I've never used a V1, I installed a K40 in my MINI and I love it. It seems to work very well, and the only visual is a flush mounted LED that I put in the top right of the dash panel behind the steering wheel. The control unit is in the back of my parcel shelf, and the sensor is hidden in the front bumper. Completely stealth!

Valentine 1, bought the original in the fall of 1992 ( 3 month on the waiting list). Upgraded since 3x - last time before I got my MCS. Hardwired it into the clock, have it installed left of the mirror. Still can take it out and use it in other cars, base stays permanently in my Mini. Saved me so many times in momre than 10 years, so I do not question the price invested ( probably $800 since 1992 - the last upgrade was the brand new detector for 3/4 of price of new one and returning the original one - but what is the dector good for if it does not detect all the bands?!?!)

Valentine 1 gives very timely warnings. If you like to drive briskly, then it will help save you from tickets.

In moderate to heavy traffic, V-1 will work very well if you are not going too much faster than the flow (which is usually going faster than posted). In light traffic where you might be the leader, you are vunerable to instant on radar.

Slow down to within no more that 10 mph over the limit and you usually won't be touched. Remember that police are human and some fishing holes are not too good so the cops might take fish below the allowable upper limit.

Okay I just got my V1 to replace my stolen Passport. and first thoughts:

It's HUGE! No where close to "sleek and sexy" of the 8500. The black and red is not matching my interior as well as the Passports' dark grey case. But I know I will come to love the functionality as, "form follows function" especially for V1.

To steal another company's advertising campaign: "Zoom, ZOOM!"
