R50/53 Do you still wave...

Whether in my Classic or in my New Cabrio, I always wave. If I don't get a wave I figure theres lots of reasons,(other driver distracted for moment, looking somewhere else, too busy driving, and sometimes just oblivious and in their own little world.) So I won't stop, and definently enjoy the response and wave back when they do notice.

Although we got side-tracked a little here & there, this is an alternate thread just like this one!

And from another thread about getting respect for the Minis! This is a good quote on how to "save the wave" :
Motor on! And wave, of course!

There's some really great facets of car culture and some really stupid ones...I recommend opting out of the stupid ones completely. It's odd, I wind up getting a good amount of respect out there, but it's generally because I defer to pedestrians, let people over when they need to change lanes, drive in a non-threatening manner, and use the MINIs superb motoring dynamics to drive more accurately in order to create safer, friendlier roadways. I get a lot of waves and thumbs-up from folks because 1) this cute little car just helped them out and 2) I think they know that MINIs are quite capable of zipping right around them. Everybody realizes how nuts things are out there on the roads these days...random acts of kindness are greatly appreciated, even moreso when it's coming from a MINI. MINIs are designed in a way that can make us better, more accurate, more aware drivers....that's what we should be about.

I try to wave to every mini owner that I see. It is very rare that I get one back and if I do, its a half @$$ed wave . I dont know what happened. When I first got my mini, other mini owners would wave like crazy, even one lady hung half her body out of her window just to wave at me as we passed each other .
Oh the good 'ole days.

I'm with you Someguy, I always wonder how many times I've missed a wave from a fellow Mini driver. So figuring that I am sometimes guilty of not waving, I keep on waving no matter how often its returned. Of course the wave being returned is always the better option!

Hee hee hee...I'm slowly but surely converting the masses!! A brand-new Mini showed up in the office parking lot today (Congrats and wise choice, whoever you are!). And I've had at least two other co-workers (there are at least 1,000 of us in the building) ask me details about the Mini and where the dealerships are.
Each one has now been carefully instructed and drilled in the art of Mini communication:
* Extremists are authorized to blink lights, stretch their bodies out the window and/or sunroof, and wave their hands off. Following a non-waver is akin to stalking, so it is not encouraged.
* Moderates can just wave, sometimes wave enthusiastically, depending on traffic safety, and how their day is going.
* Conservatives can issue a cool nod of mutual recognition and acknowledgement.
We're taking over the world!

MINI Owner Responsibilities
One should always attempt to initiate the "wave". If both are "waiting" to be waved at, then both have missed the opportunity.
I enjoy waving to other MINIs. Drivers of other make automobiles are always wondering why I am so happy; I tell them they need to go test-drive a MINI and they will know.
Most MINI motorers have a smile on their face.

I too have found that a lot of times when you wave that there may be no response, but I have always been of the opinion that it is better to give than to receive. Or they may be multi-tasking and not have an available hand to wave with at the moment. Either way it is fun when motoring that people can't help but acknowlege that cheshire cat grin I/we always seem to have, especially when reaching warp rpm in all gears I think I've even noticed people who motor in BRG cars smiling even more for some reason...

Sorry guys, I use to wave back when I first got into VWs (90s). It was cool when I owned my '91 GTI and '93 Corrado (especially when you came across another Corrado owner). But honestly, I see quite a few MINI's out there on a daily basis. I don't want all the cougars driving their MINI's to the hair salon to get the wrong idea about me.

Harrisburg's a fairly trendy (at least wannabe) little town of a city. Honestly, I see at least two MINI's a day. Most have been R53s.
