I'm easily at 50 MINIs waved to per returned wave,I wave whether or not I'm in the MINI.
It's grown to be less of I want a response and become more of a sign of courtesy, respect and the open offering of camaraderie. I can liken it much to be the same as holding a door,or addressing a stranger as sir or m'am.
I had 4 wavers and 2 non-wavers yesterday. Pretty par for the course. Also passed several coming in the other direction on the freeway, but I don't count those because between the speed, the median, and all the other cars around, I'm lucky to even see them.
well I followed this blue mini for about 20 minutes on the 405 today and
he didn't even give me a look as I was passing. I waved waved and waved but he just talked on his cellphone and ignored me the whole way.
I don't think i'm going to wave anymore.. at least in so-cal...
I know what you mean. Its hard to get a wave back over here. I still do it though or look right at the other mini and nod.
I get more nods then waves, which i think is strange

I didn't get any responses back from the ones we passed yesterday, should I take a hint?
There were three, right? The first two waved, but the last one didn't. I passed a bunch on my way up though, including a girl from LA who raced to catch up with me so she could wave
Maybe you surprised them and I was getting the after-the-fact wave meant for you?
(Or maybe they like me best! )

i've been striking out in getting responses too. very disappointing but i keep on motoring looking for the elusive "wave back." i do tend to see a lot more 07s and 08s on the road now so im thinking people are buying the cars for the efficiency and looks rather than culture. i seem to have better luck with the 1st gens
for some reason now i want to get stickers on my mini saying "waves at other minis" but then again... it might come off as strange or arrogant at other motorists

Well I have to agree with all the above responses and with that said here is a badge from montyformula1 of SunshineMINIs.org
Got my first wave yesterday after a little over 2 weeks of ownership. I was just leaving the University of Utah and BAM!! a wave from another MINI motorist. Made me feel all warm inside
Trying some back roads to avoid heavy DC traffic, I ended up SLOWLY driving side by side w/ a Mini, and they wouldn't even LOOK in my direction!!! My passenger -- not a Mini-er, but she was doing admirably as my Mini spotter! -- was as upset as I was, and she still hadn't had her first (passenger) wave. How RUDE.
If anybody finds a badge (or eventually makes one?) that says,
"WARNING: This driver waves at other Minis"
Please think of me -- I want one!
What about the ones where you have already waved to earlier that day or the one that you pass everyday and you just don't know anymore. And what's really scary is when you get the two handed wave
gave a thumbs up, received one back... let the good times roll!
There's a blue with bonnet stripes that I wave to a few times week; and get the wave back. I have a short commute, but don't always leave the house at exactly the same time, although I think the blue boy does.
Every now & then I see this MCS like mine, and give him the thumbs-up. I once got a double thumbs-up from the passenger.
