Speedo question.

2003 MCS, I have the option that shows avg speed and avg MPH along with mile's to go. (sorry if I dont know what else to call it)

is there a way to change the option to show the average speed to show the real time speed?

here is why. and this is actually a different question and not as important as the first.

My analog Gage in the center console is off a bit. not so bad at low speed but around 65 to 70 it's off by about 3 or 4 mph.

I have a GPS that shows real time speed and also I can push the reset button on the "avg speed" to show me real time speed,(for a second) these are in sync. but when I am doing 65 "real time" my analog shows 70ish.

How can I get that AVG speed digital Gage to show real time all the time.

I just watched a youtube video that had someone's digital gage doing exactly what I want.. please help.

If no one here can help you, you can try emailing the uploader of the youtube video!

Not sure on a first gen MINI but on the second gen you just cycle through the display and one of them is instantaneous speed.

Perhaps it's only the 2nd gen that shows the instantaneous MPH. and the youtube video was that.

hopefully someone will be able to answer if the first gen mini can also.

My '06 MCS has real time speed on the On-Board Computer. Maybe they added that feature after '03? I just cycle through - Avg Speed, actual speed, avg mpg, actual mpg, outside temp, and range to empty.

AFAIK the MPH in the speedo was added with the '05 refresh.

David0415 - you may not have the OBC (On Board Computer) I'm pretty sure that can be added with the proper stalk and a computer change by the dealer (though many dealers may say it won't work.) There's a thread on here somewhere.

Digital speed display is not possible in a 2003. The feature was added in later years. But even if you did have it, the speed reading will still be off! It is "normal" in a MINI and there are lots of complaints about the speed inaccuracy on this forum.

MPH in the OBC in 04, IIRC. At least I have it in my 04 MCS.
If you want real time correct speed, average MPH and at least two more readouts get a ScanGuageII. You can adjust the SGII reading from the ECU with your GPS to get accurate reading all of the time on the SGII.
The SGII is something I would recommend for all drivers. The biggest benefit for me the actual water temp and intake temp.
