I took a test drive and the car conked out on the freeway. Couldn't get it into any gear. Pretty scary. Had to be picked up and driven back to the dealership.

I bought one anyway, though most people (besides you) thought I was crazy after that test drive.

>>WOW. I don't even know where to begin. What an incredible car! I picked it up on Thursday night, and left Friday to go to Cape Cod for the weekend. I could barely even fall asleep Thursday night because I was so excited. I took mostly non-highway roads down there and back (for the sake of the break-in), and had a blast. Today was some fantastic sunroof weather. This car is so far beyond anything else I've driven that I still can't believe it's mine. The twisty back roads were a great time. The ride of the car was even better than I imagined; even train tracks were not much of a jolt, and when I had the car up to around 85 on the highway it felt rock solid and sure-footed. The steering and braking are truly amazing, and I love the sound of the engine/exhaust. It's definitely true what people have been saying about nothing else measuring up once you've driven a MINI. It makes every other car on the road seem so boring and uninspired. I can't wait to get out of town again!<<

Cheers!

Nope no test drive before ordering my MCS. I did sit in one at the dealer. Here in Fort Worth, Minis are about as rare as Citroen 2CV's. I have seen exactly one on the streets here, although I did see 3 S's in Fredericksburg, Texas a month ago (some VERY twisty roads in the hill country).

But no never mind. I've wanted a Mini since I saw the first spy photos two years ago. I know I'll love it.

Welcome to MCO, ElGuapo!!

No reason you won't love your MINI when it arrives!!!

Also, this is a great place to bide your time while you wait for it to arrive. All of us MINIACS are always here fussing and fuming about our MNIs. You can find out pretty much anything you want about MINI stuff here. Enjoy!

Hrach Chekijian?! Wow! ... what a blast from the past - I met him at MiniCityLtd. in upstate NY in the mid-70's - he had a Classic that he poured lots of money into (if I recall, he was a jeweler/ jewelery importer at the time); interesting character without a doubt ...

back on track ... test drive was a formality as the car was already ordered - but it did confirm that things like sport seats were a good choice ...

I did test drive an MC - 10 minutes before I ordered one. It was a very short 'round-the-block drive though. At the time there were no CVT's available to test, so I drove the 5-speed. I really liked that and it made me question how important it was for the wife to be able to drive the car.... I ended up ordering the CVT.

I ran into Hrach when I was there to put a deposit down. I was happily crawling all over the showroom car.. he waited until I shut the door to ask my boyfriend what I really wanted the car for. He wanted to suggest that I get the regular Cooper if I didn't plan on using the extra power. When informed that I was, in fact, planning on auto-x among other things for the car, he was MUCH friendlier to me, giving me advice on racing the car, etc.

Very interesting dude... though I'm surprised he didn't tell you the story about his uncle hanging him in the sunroof of his car going down a mountainside in Hungary...

I would NEVER buy ANY car with out a test drive.
I test drove a MINI in (3) different dealerships.
Peace,
D
