Mini not cranking.

Hello.

couple of days ago the mini wouldn't start when pushing the clutch pedal on the first try, but it would when i reset the key and did it again.
Now its not trying to crank at all.
Ive swapped all the relays around with no success , ive pulled the starter and starter solenoid and had them tested along with the battery , and everything was good there.

Ive read all through here and tried everything suggested and have had no luck.

Now I'm looking at this part

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Can anyone please identify it for me and if its the possible culprit ?
Or any other ideas what i should do?
could it be the ignition switch?

Thank you very much in advance.

Richard.

Since it would crank when you pushed in the pedal a second time... Maybe the clutch sensor failed....not sure the term..maybe interlock...simple thing..just a switch....not sure if it is the item in the photo.
It requires the clutch be engaged to start the car....If it fails...it would be like trying to crank without the clutch depressed.

Update .

For the first time in 5 days I got it to start by repeatedly turning the key ,. after it started 1 more time then a few failed starts then it worked again.

I'm thinking its the ignition switch is worn now.
Its dark here now so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get into it and see if that's the problem.

When i press the clutch down i hear the relay clicking as intended so i suspect its working.

Can you jump start the car? I know this sounds screwy but go take a look at the condition of your ground strap. It's a $15 part that tends to get corroded easily and without it the MINI won't charge and eventually won't crank. I had issues and I looked at the clutch switch, the alternator, the battery, the starter (even fixed an issue with the starter motor plug)

Yes . was one of the first things I checked and it was near to perfect. I went to far as to remove the starter and have it tested , that was a very fun day.

I hoping like hell its the ignition since i got it to start today by repeatedly turning it.
Was an act of aggravation that may well pay off. Will see tomorrow i hope.

Thanks for the reply =)
