busted mirror while parked...

f'ing a55holes

So I was parked in SF last night and I get out this morning to see my mirror is turned out and my mirror class is missing.

I can't tell exactly what happened, but their's no shattered glass around my r53.

How can I tell if the housing is good and if all I need to replace is the glass vs the drive/housing

Call your Mini dealership beforehand but you can buy just the mirror itself as long as the clips didn't get broken off and left in the mirror housing. Installing the mirror itself is a pain in the rear end though. I finally was able to get it to fully clip in when I used the suction mount for my gps to grip the front of it so that I could really align the mirror properly. There isn't much space between the mirror edge and the housing so I couldn't fit my fingers in there. The mirror should only cost around $16-17. Good luck!

The housing looks fine. A new mirror and you should be all set.

Considering how hard it was to get the replacement installed, I would think that it's much more difficult to remove it. The housing looks fine to me. Good luck!

Actually the mirror itself is very easy to remove on the Gen 1 MINIs. Slide your fingers under the bottom edge of the mirror and pull smartly. It pops right out. If you try that on a Gen 2 you'll most likely break the mirror.

If you've no CW package then the mirrors are not heated, thus no wires.

Install of the new mirror is quite easy (in most cases).

Whilst the mirror is out, this is a good time replace your mirror cover if you were wanting to.

$48 for just the glass? Ouch! If you're unfortunate enough to have a next time, try www.mazdarecycling.com in Rancho Cordova. They also do MINIs.
