A/C Problem

Hello everyone, I have been reading the forums since I bought my 2002 Mini cooper (2 months ago) and has so far been useful on a couple minor problems. However, my A/C light has recently started blinking and temporarily stopped working. If I am cruising without interruption, the A/C works perfect. Shortly after stopping, the A/C light will start blinking and blowing warm air. When I resume driving, I will push the A/C light and it will be fine again... until I stop.... and there is also a notable humming noise when accelerating. I have found (thru this forum) that part of the problem is one of the 5-fuses in the engine compartment(which is always blown). Any experience as to what the ultimate problem might be? I truly appreciate your time!!!!! Thanks for your expertise!!!

The damn AC is more complicated than most on these cars. I think you may have a power steering fan that is bad, blowing the fuse, which in 02s also blows effects the low speed radiator fan.

You need to get it working, then take the fuse out (as if it blew) and see if the radiator fan still spins. THere was a fix (new harness) that makes them have different fuses. If the PS fan is bad, you need to fix it above and beyond this issue. They need cooling or they can cause the very expensive PS unit to fail.

I think these are the first things to check. Others may be more helpful. For me, it turns out I have two issues, the radiator fan is broken, and probably the AC compressor is toast. I am however going to put the new fan in first to test the theory that no low speed fan means no AC. Once all done I intend to post my experiences, but at this point I have all the parts and just want to get a buddy who can flush the AC system out to help so I only have to do this once.

Thanks

Thanks for responding! I will be taking it to the dealer and will also post the results. I will feel much more confident going in there with that bit of information. I've been reading about the 1 gen ac problems and decided to buy an extended warranty. Only problem is that I have to drive 1000 miles before I can take it in. Once again, I appreciate your expertise and taking the time to respond, have a good one!

If you are getting a flashing ac light most likely it just needs a refrigerant service; easy to do on your own.
