The poster before me mentioned a "transmission service".. Surely that is what I need rather than an inspection1 or 2, right?

However, I cannot see an item called "transmission service" on the Mini website... Can anyone explain what this is and how much it is likely to cost?

Thanks again,

Z
sometimes it is simplest to get items worked on when a servicing is due or nearly due..
when a car is brought in for an inspection, the compurt will usually get plugged into the mini computer system...software will be checked, and updated as needed...
since the car is already hooked up.....you avoid a seperste trip and a one half or one hour charge to get the software updated and reset....
resetting the computer has been mentioned, along with updating the software as possible solutions that have worked for a few folks....sometimes for long periods of time(as long as a mechanical issue is not the cause of the problem).
A lot of what a dealer or shop will/will not do for you depends both on your relationship with them, and how you handle the conversation with the tech/MA.
but you have the potential to save area $$, document an issue (for possible goodwill discount on a future transmission if the worst happens), and simply be able to show the cars has been matained in accordance with the mini recommendations...
and let's face it....if only a couple thousand short of the inspection, dropping the car off once rather than twice is a better choice for most....

The transmission service may only include a fluid flush/chang....it may may not include a resetting of the computer or updating the software....ask the MA...
their job is to inform, and act as a gobetween from the tech and the shop (in some cases...) explain the issue....and mention what you want/need done...the better ones wil help you get it done in the best way possible (combining jobs if applicable like I mentioned above).

yep just like Zippy said. We all know the CVT's are problems if you have all your stuff documented and have a good relationship with the dealership alot of times they will help you cover large repairs.
