New Mini owner
Hello all, I recently just picked up a 2005 mini cooper s. A family member was going to have one of the online wholesalers come pick it up, but I figured I'd give a shot because the price was pretty good.
It did come with problems , supercharger noise and no a/c. but with the help of this forum I believe I can sort it out. The car was maintained pretty good just was never cleaned.. I'm a no stranger to forums or tools so i'm making good progress so far. I didn't know if build threads are cool around here but i have some pics and vids of the rattle I'll share.
any suggestions on things to do while i've got it dismantled would be helpful..

LoL ... I do believe he left the sunroof open under a few trees. But what I know he did was take excellent care of his yard, soo just about every scotts lawn care product was tossed in the back. I currently have 4 hrs in to the repair work and probaly 6hrs more to get it back together I bet it will take me just as much to detail it..

And I estimating about $1500 for parts on this project. Has anybody actually replaced the pto gears? I see supercharger technologies sells a kit. And I need a good source for an ac compressor..

Very common....the op diagnosed it right...pto oil loss....the gears the ground themselves up.
Solution, A GOOD rebuild(with new pto gears and seals (one very cheap place in flordia does not replace the pto seals)....exoect to pay $600-900.
You can find low mile takeoff units for sale from wrecked cars for a similar price range...
Good luck, the mini is a fun car. I just hope the driver stopped driving before they overheated the motor too badly.....

Taking appart the pto is pretty hard...the place you refer to does rebuld the nose/snount, but they only glue in a new seal....more of a basic take appart, clean, install new seals bearings in the snout/nose.....ingnore the pto, but they do install new gears if needed, but not really fix why the gears ran dry....good warrenty, high failure rate, low cost.

just an update. i got the parts last friday, so last weekend was outta question. so saturday i put a few hrs in and sunday a few more. car was started 3hrs after i started saturday morning including a trip to auto zone. i also installed the a/c compressor and started a vacuum. i'm amazed at how little time this takes guys.
It took me longer to raise the suspension on the s4 1 1/2" just the fronts, than it took me to get this mini back together. ( not really but very close.)
today i charged the a/c and cleared up some issuses i had with it throwing codes. loose i/c boot.
i did a bad job with the pics but theres one new pic of where im at now and and new video of how it sounds..
