third brake light help
I have a 2005 R50, and am trying to remove the third brake light. Mine is not working. I can't get the light to clear the spoiler.
I read in another thread that the spoiler needs to be "partially" removed. Does anyone know how to do that, or where the bolts for the spoiler are?
My mini dealer wants close to $300.00 to replace the light. I haven't ordered one yet, I need to get mine out first, and see if it is the wiring.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have an 02 s with a JCW Spoiler, but, I have a Bentley Manual.
According to the manual, there should be three bolt covers (plastic) at the top of the hatch. Get those off and loosen some bolts.
They also use adhesive tape to hold it on, so you might have to use a heat gun/hairdryer to loosen the tape.
The Manual says its instructions for the Cooper S, so I'm not sure if this helps you.(My only experience is on a S)
With the JCW Spoiler, I didn't have to mess with anything but the third brakelight when I took it out to install the pulsar.
Good Luck!!

I have an '06 JCW and just installed a pulsar. Three screws and a slight pry was needed to release the light from sticking on it's seal and it came off. A little dexterity and patience got it clear of the spoiler. Wire wasn't long so that was a pain but didn't have that much trouble. It just took three times as long as it should have - typical for my repairs. When it wasn't going so well I looked at pulling the wing- two nuts recessed under plastic caps. But one of the nuts was offset enough that a standard long socket would not get on it - I think it needed a thin walled socket which I didn't have. So I said "screw it" and promptly went back to using patience to get the light out.
