03 MC AC Problems. Need Help!!

Hi! All. I have 2003 MC Base Model. The car driving Great!! except one problem i have right now. If someone could help would be appreciate.

Let me tell you the situation with my AC.

First Day

1) First start Engine in normal cold weather and Turn On AC. It's work and COLD fine OK. So,I drive the car for like 30 minutes. The AC Light start Blinking and AC was change to be HOT Air coming in. (no more Cold Air)

2) The Temperature Meter rising from 80 to 90 to 100 to 111 and the Alert Signal light Over Heat is now ON. Then I shut down the AC and the Temperature strting to Drop. Then i park the car and open the hood.

3) It's Over Heat. The coolant are now boiling. The Fan are blowing hard.
So i Shut off the engine for 2 Hours and drive back Home without AC on and it's work fine. no Over Heat,No Light and anything.

Next Day

I start the car and Turn on AC for 10 minutes and It's happens again. So i shut Off and Drive without AC with no problems at all.

I try while my car is now Park and Hood on.
1) Start Engine and Turn AC fully On
2) AC work and Cold
3) AC on for 30 minutes+ No Light On, Temperature stable. No rising.
4) I check Low Fan and It's Work Fine
So ,no problmes with AC on, Hood On, when park.

The Car seem to have problems only when AC on while driving.

Anyone have any idea or can help would be appreciate. Sorry for my broken English BTW.

You may have in issue with your A/C compressor. It may be locking up or causing excessive drag which may be slipping your belt. This in turn would slow down the speed of the supercharger pulley which via a shaft drives the water pump. Hence, slowed/glazed/or slipping belt may = slow turning water pump which would lead to over heating.

Unfortunately most all AC work needs to be handled by a qualified shop as working on the A/C system will cause refrigerant to leak out into the atmosphere which is about a 25-50k dollar EPA fine if caught. Also, it can burn you from its sheer coldness and isn't good to inhale. Probably take it to your closest dealer or BMW/MINI qualified repair facility and have the system pressure tested, have the cooling system pressure tested as well and while their at it have the belt and belt tensioner inspected.

If you take it to the MINI dealer they may be able to pull codes from the AC system to further enhance their diagnosis.

Good luck
