I won a 2002 Ford Thunderbird in a raffle over the weekend. I went to the dealer and took a look at it, no way I'm getting rid of my Mini for that thing!!!! My whole family looked at it and said "no way". The Mini is such a great car and has become part of our family.

I guess I'll be selling a T-Bird

Good decision! With the extra money, you could heavily modify the Mini

You may want to check on the tax liability of keeping car and selling it.

You will get a W-2 for retail on the car ,have to pay taxes on it to the feds and local
government , regardless of what you sell it for.

Maybe the dealer will buy it and the taxes will be based on that number.

T-birds are sitting and I do not see you being able to sell it for retail

Have fun spending your winnings!!!

I'll pay the taxes on it and take it off your hands.

Maybe you can trade someone for a MINI.. that way when your 3 years warranty is up, you already have a fresh supply of parts!

(OBTW: I don't blame you.. there's something not quite right about the new t-bird...)

I'm running out of garage space I have my MINI and my wifes G-35 in there plus two motorcycles (a Norton and a Triumph.) I also have my two sons honda cars in the driveway. The fleet is getting expensive to insure as well.

Also jwhcars the dealer offered me $28,000 for the car, I told him no thanks. I'll probably try the L.A. times or somthing.

Now you can fluff up your MINI with the extra dough, or even buy another one!

Cheers!

I take it that's $28K in US funds? What do they usually sell for over in the Staes? They sell for about $55K CDN up here. And there doesn't seem to be a big market for them right now. They're not really moving off the dealer's lots.
IMO, if I won a car that I didn't want, I wouldn't get too picky with what the dealer offered. That is unless they totally took advantage of me and offered something way too low. But it's quick cash. If they offer $28K for the car, than that's 28Grand that you didn't have before. If you choose other routes to sell it, you'll have to insure it, add miles to it, place ads, wait, etc. I'd say, Take the money and run.
I agree about heavily modding the Mini out with the cash. You could pretty much do a M3 engine drop in like QvickMotors did. That thing looks killer.
Try a T-Bird forum/club on the net. Maybe there's a waiting list for them, or someone in your area that needs or wants one. Don't know why. I think they're hideous. I'd take a 50's version over that thing.
Either way, congrads.
