R50/53 aux inputs for stereo
#2
The aux input is an addon, so I don't think it automatically comes with the HK, either that or my dealer wasn't very knowledgeable because I ordered the HK stereo and an aux input separately. Its not in the rear either, its on the side of the center console. Unless maybe you get the 6 CD changer, then you'd kinda have an aux input in the rear, since I imagine thats the only place you could fit the changer inside the car.

All MINI OEM stereos (CD Boost and Harmon Kardon) already come Aux input and Satellite ready beginning with the 2003 model year. Pre-2003 factory stereos do not support the Aux Input and Satellite radio.
The dealer stiill needs to install the Aux Input cable/jack that connects to the back of the stereo. The Jack typically mounts inside the glove box compartment. The part is $40 plus dealer labor to install.

I understand about the Sat radio, but are you sure about 2002 models not supporting the Aux cable on the back? Elsewhere, I see the part listed for 01-03 models. I have a 02 MCS and am engaged in wishfull thinking.

And no, you don't need the dealer to install the cable, it is a very simple job that requires nothing more than a few Torx screwdrivers, and not more than an hour... Not only that, but if you do the job yourself you can place the jack just about anywhere in the car you like (it comes with almost 6 feet of cord) as opposed to the MINI recommended location, which is inside the glovebox...
