Supercharger Maintenance

Hey guys!

So does the super charger on the r53 take its own oil or does it share the same oil from the engine. If it does have its own oil reservoir what specific oil does it need?

Thanks for the link, I was planning to check the fluid level on mine as well.

I bought the GM SC fluid.

Was going to add (if needed), fluid to the front side. Since we can access it much easier.

I realize the backend is a bit of work. Roughly 6 hours to do so.

I presume if I just add fluid to the front port, and don't go through the efforts of tearing into the car, to add fluid into the rear SC port, I'm probably not buying myself much, eh?

TIA,

-Jav

I had to replace my supercharger a while back, and when I tore it appart it was full of fluid at the front ( pulley side) but bone dry and destroyed at the back where it connects with the water pump.

Wow. Way more involved than I expected. I can only imagine how much a shop would charge to do this.

That is why mini considers it a nonservicable lifetime part....
if you do find it dry (before the gears go bad) the seals are likly bad...so refilling it does not do much.....
rebuilt units run about $600-800 at the lower end....so if you are gonna not diy it, paying $600 in labour to relube it is a real false sense of ecnomy imo. If you are gonna diy it, guess you could.....

Best bet... Replace with sprintex SC. service ports accessible with car just in service mode. And replaces tensioner, and water pump which are known to fail.

Just finished installing my S5-210 from Sprintex. And am going to fire it up on Sunday evening when I get back home.

Full walk thru with pics will be written in the next week or so.

Lol...i say 99% of folks going to a sprintex are doing it for reasons OTHER THAN RELIBILITY.....and it has it own host of issues.....
Still s fun change for a weekend driver for the possibility for lots more power.....but setup right, the m45 can make more than 2 wheels can putdown relilibily, without tearing up the rest of the draivetrain!!
While many folks worry endlessly about the sc, most never have an issue....heck i have had a spare sitting on the shelf for 4 years......still on my oem.

Removing the supercharger from mine this upcoming Tuesday, figured I'd take a peep back there since I'm already having the front end apart to swap radiators...
