spark plug gap with 19% overdrive pulley

I have an '04 S with a 19% pulley on the supercharger that suddenly started running rough and kicking misfire error codes. I decided new plugs were in order because I have no idea how long the old ones were in there. On inspection I discovered that the plugs were cooler plugs as I thought they should be with the pulley installed but the gap is closer to 1.4mm than the .8mm that the manual stipulates. Does anyone know if this was done to mimic retarding the timing or has it something to do with the MSD coils and wires needing a larger gap for a bigger spark. It seems to run fine with the .8mm gap but I can change that if i need to.
