SC Boost lag

Alrighty, I'll start by saying that I just reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and turning my lights on to drain any remaining stored power.

I don't know if this is in my head or not but it seems that my SC doesn't boost as fast as before.

If I depress the gas pedal fully, I hear the super charger whine, then maybe a second or less after it gets a louder whine and I get max boost.

I sort of remember when I got that car that the SC was just max boost immediately?

whats going on here, if anything?

Driving it again to work just now and I am realizing I don't have very much boost until 3000rpm, or very little. And then once past 3000rpm it's like "boom"; tons of boost.

Wtf is going on lol ?

Sounds like the BPV is sticking slightly, may just need to be cleaned. First I would simply try a little carb & choke cleaner in all the eternal linkages/parts, if no help try the same internally while manually working the butterfly.

Ok I understand, where exactly are these parts in the engine bay. I'm not very familiar with superchargers or this engine in particular

Ill search around for YouTube videos tonight

would I have to remove all this to access the BPV to spray carb cleaner on it?

http://helix13.com/inst/dtbpvins/DTBPVINS.htm

or am I able to reach over and around the intercooler to access the BPV's linkage?

Won't hurt to try to do it without removing it first, spray it best you can, phisically work the linkages best you can & give it a test drive, might as well start with the simplest thing first.

So so so cold here right now in the GTA. I worked the lever back and forth with my hand, We'll see if that did anything when I drive to work in a few minutes. I'll stop by Canadian Tire for some carb cleaner tomorrow.

I suppose lubrication is not recommended? silcone lube, white lithium, wd40 etc?

Seems a little more responsive now. Maybe a half a second before full boost. It's like half boost, then full boost half a second later.

Ill try the carb cleaner as soon as I can.

The boost should be instant though, right?

Since the mini has so little tourqe down low, don't ever do it...
There is a lack lower below 2500 or so rpm, when the bypas valve is normaly open in a car without a pulley, and there is also a bit of a lag on a car without a sprintbooster or a tune...the electronic throttle.
Basicly just make sure the bpv is moving, the vacume lines are connected, and the spring on the bpv iis ok....it can be ziptied temporily closed to see if you feel a different, but some cars do have a "yo-yo " lag feel...the vac bellows in it can fail, but the spring is more common....
from a combinatiin of the car's computer switching from off boost operation, and on boost, and a few other mechanical issues on some cars....
If you feel a change, great, but don't go crazy on one item before looking at simple mx stuff...

Ok I understand. Maybe I'm just being power greedy. I just sort of remember the boost being more present at lower rpm. But I don't go around driving crazy often, usually I'm just back and forth to school trying to get the best mpg.

Sprayed carb cleaner on the bpv today while working the lever back and forth. It seemed to work so far.

I just want the weather to start getting warmer so I can do some maintenance on my mini

Valve cover is leaking, ill probably do that when I change the oil next.

Glad it worked out for you with such a simple fix.
