Help: Windshield Replacement - Houston

So I need to finally replace the factory windshield in our '04 MCS and I'm looking for any recommendations in the Houston area. I called Momentum Mini and they want $125 for labor, $374.18 for the windshield and another $42 for new molding.

I'm thinking as many Minis as we see around town, someone out there has a better reference than the local dealer.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You insurance doesn't cover glass? Otherwise those prices actually feel pretty cheap.

Call Safelite. I have had 2 done by them with zero issues and only about 300.00

Nope, windshield insurance in Texas is a separate piece of the policy which we don't have.

My biggest concern is that they know how to take off the A-pillar covers and have whatever they need to ensure the rain sensor is correct.

Safelite can do it properly and when doing mine they brought extra pillar covers just in case. Like I said I had 2 done with zero issues.

Thanks Braminator, any idea which brand of windshield they installed for you? From what I've read, there are plenty to choose from.

I can go look if you want. I never requested anything other then one that was clear. LOL. One thing I do like it the lifetime warranty on installation. I lost a piece of the upper corner seal and they fixed it no questions asked almost a year later.

That's good to hear. Do you happen to have the rain sensor on your windshield?

Sure do. They replaced it each time again with no issues.

another vote for safelite

I've used them several times over many years on MINI and other cars. Very satisfied.

They are of course a franchise and each shop is different. But as a company they stand behind their work 100%. I once had a problem with wind noise on a Honda after they replaced the windshield and called. They were back the next day and replaced everything with new ... no questions and many "we're very sorry"

My insurance sends all glass claims straight to Safelite. I can use someone else if I really want to, but their recommendation is Safelite

Keep an eye on the little corner rain gutter piece above the a-pillar covers. Window replacement people are notorious for breaking these off.

Better yet, you might want to consider taking the drip rails off yourself before the window people come to replace your windshield.

I've now had a second safelight windshield put in and with both replacements the rain sensing wipers will not work. We have put in a new sensor and new windshield to no avail. Now it has to go to the dealer... Sigh.
