Replacement O-ring came quick and was no hassle to swap out. Even happier than I was before.

Hard to imagine a dealership maintenance tech wouldn't know how much oil a MINI takes.

They overfill it on purpose. Apparently because then, if the owner doesn't check it regularly, it at least has oil for a longer while.
They do that EVERY TIME unless you look them straight in the eye, and with sincerity and vigor, declare that they must NOT overfill it, that you will check it, and that it does matter to you.

The fact that they have to note that on the paperwork, so that the kid whose only job is to change the oil, doesn't overfill it, indicates that they do indeed deliberately overfill it.

After reading a lot of these kinds of threads, I'm going to check the oil level before leaving the dealership from now on. Because sometimes they overfill... but once in a great while, they FORGET TO FILL IT AT ALL!!!! And that does not bear thinking about.

Interesting. We much have a good dealership because we've probably had our MINIs there for at least 20 oil changes and never had them overfill one. But I can see your point that some of them will do it on purpose.

Also, and more to the point about whether or not to buy this dipstick, here's something to ponder...
If you don't want to pay the price for this one, at least make sure that you can read the one that you have, or modify it as someone posted... (BlackIce, was that your post?) and check it!! Regularly!!

If you decide not to buy the Craven because it's a few dollars more, don't end up kicking yourself because it might have made the difference between checking your oil regularly, and not checking it, with a big repair bill later.

I missed the group buy but didn't hesitate to spend the full price on one after reading about the stock dipstick in the R56. You spend $35K on a MINI, what's $80 (with shipping) for added security that you don't run it low, or high, on oil!

YES!!!! Or break it off and have to drop your oil pan to pull it out!
