I am putting the final touches to my Mini before it gets ordered but I am in a dilemma. Do I go for the Checker board roof or the dual pane sunroof?

How have the owners in this forum found the headroom in Mini with the standard roof (I know they the standard roof and the sunroof have the same amount headroom)? But does the standard roof feel claustrophobic? Does it give the illusion of being cramped?

Have there been any repeat problems with sunroofs? Leaks, noise that sort of thing. I am an old school Mini owner and have owned two 1977's Mark2 and a 1979 Mark2, so you can be honest.

Thanks for your help.

Just do what I'm doing: BOTH!

http://www.carvogue.co.uk/

The real descision is whether to have the opaque decal (no light shows through the sunroof, but the decal looks specatacular) or go for the perforated decal (you can see out.. like perforated ggraphics seen on buses) for the sunroof portion of the roof. THis is what I am doing, and I'll post pictures as soon as I can. It will probably be at least a month, though, as I am Picking the car up Saturday, but I just ordered the roof, so I imagine it will be a few weeks before it gets "across the pond."

Have fun!

I had a sunroof in my last car, and no sunroof in my MINI, and the roof is si high up, theres none of that 'clausterphobic' feeling... Of course, after swearing that I'd never get a car w/o a sunroof, i then grew rather sick of them... so i guess you could say i'm slightly biased..

Don't forget, with the MINI sunroof, there is a support beam in the middle of it, going side to side... I was not fond of the look... (Of course, check the last part of my above statement)

>>p.s. The Carvogue chequers also ave the added benefit of coming all the way to the edge of the roof, not stopping early, as on the factory version.

Do all of the dealer installed roof decals stop short of "edge to edge"? I'm looking for an American flag, but want to make sure it is "edge to edge: (incl. spoiler)

rather than just centered.

I'm very happy with the sunroof! although, here comes the honesty you asked for, I have been having a rattle in the sunroof. It seems to happen only on cold days, before the car has warmed up, and if I open it then close it, I dont hear the rattle anymore. I've also heard of an easy DIY fix for it as well, posted either here or on mini2.com. It has to do with applying felt tape, or the fuzzy side of velcro tape to the top side of the wind deflector. Again, I have to say I am still very happy I have the sunroof!

If anyone is uncomfortable going "across the pond" and might be looking for some new designs all you have to do is wait a few weeks.
Our advertising will be up soon on MCO and our site will be up around the same time. We are adding some "umph" to the traditional Union Jack, US Flag and some great concepts of the traditional checkerboard designs. Along with these we have a cool design called the X-Ray which you will have to see to believe. All of our products will use 3M Scotchguard and come with a limited warranty. If you have a personal design we can incorporate that into your own roof graphic. If you want more details shoot me an e-mail.

BOTH I say. Ask Minimad as well. Though do know if you want a lighter car there is some weight to the sunroof, but otherwise I really wish I knew I could do both before I ordered.

Having worked for the sunroof supplier( Webasto), I was part of the team which dealt with dealer/ customer/ mfg. plant concerns. I have not replied to previous sunroof posts for obvious reasons. All prospective/ current sunroof owners should be aware of one major concern, and that is repair after warranty. Parts costs are obscene. If you're keeping your Mini for a long time be aware of motor and weatherstripping( the two most common quality issues for vehicles in service awhile) replacement. Do not buy any used vehicle 5+ years old with a sunroof
( especially an aftermarket installation)- you'll pay through the nose for a part, and in some cases, might be unable to get the part through normal channels.
