My car was rear ended and the body shop ordered OEM R53 tips as they claim for my 2003 R53....this is what they put on after 3 weeks of back order from *germany*

I know for a fact these are not my OEM tips... they protrude much too far from the body and do not look right and also sound ridiculously bad like each exhaust bang is a fart..... I don't like them... can anyone identify them or what they are from? No markings on them at all....

They look like the OEM accessory "Sport Exhaust Tips"

My guess is that it came up when they searched the MINI parts catalog and they didn't realize that it is different from the standard tips.

You are entitled to have the repair done to your satisfaction, and you can have them switched out.

Yeah you got a MINI upgrade.....

But have them re-secure those properly.....one is off kilter and the set screw ( allen head screw ) must be at the very end of the exhaust tips.

Protruding out that far and you are liable to get a burnt shin when wearing shorts this summer !

It is possible the pipe the tip attaches to is bent on or both pipes

Thanks for identifying this!

The body shop will order the correct parts. But they claim that because I have them one ball exhaust modification done that they cannot truly center the exhaust tips because the way it is now has the exhaust off center...

I don't buy this or I feel like I need to have someone else center the new tips...

A one ball mod is not supposed to put the exhaust off center... unless it was done badly. The muffler/tips will remain in the same position.

I had Meineke weld a piece of round stock from the pass side pipe behind the tip near the bend and ran about 12 inches of it to the rubber inboard hangar no longer used since resonator removed.... It centers BOTH tips and eliminates the one sided stress the One Ball Mod places on the entire exhaust system.

What I was referring to earlier was the angle of the pass side tip....it flares out pretty bad....should not be like that..reminds me of the buck teeth of the mule from Shrek. That body shop never should have released the car like that...

Okay so the deal is BMW says they do NOT sell the OEM factory R53 beer can tips anymore new. They are all gone and are now being replaced with the ones I have...

I do not like them and do not want them. My insurance says if I can find a place online with the stock beer can ones IN STOCK and NEW that they will buy them. I cannot find these things online new anywhere?

Can anyone help?

I'm sure there's many a MINI owner that would be happy to trade you stock tips for those. You may bear in mind that they are just attched by a set screw so you may have better luck finding tips on a junked car and just swapping them out if they cannot be had new anymore. I would suggest having the body shop straighten the ones you have now to your liking and then just keep an eye out for an original set.

Body shop says they can't straighten them out due to the one ball mod and they are not equipped to fabricate anything to center the exhaust itself via grabbing onto the passenger side hangers to pull it center.

I think I need to find a different shop.
