I have been reading this board (as a guest) for about 2 years now and have been longing for a Mini the entire time. I am finally ready to buy (it's a long story) and am really needing some advice. Here's my dilemma:

If I could pick an MCS off the lot tomorrow, I would do it. However there are 2 dealerships in the Dallas area. One has none available and the other wants a $2k markup. Has anyone had good experience buying off the lot elsewhere without the markups and BS? If so, do you have a contact??

If I don't buy one off the lot, I think I am going to suck it up waitwise and order a 2005. Assuming miniusa ever releases pricing info.

There really isn't much out there right now on the lots... I would wait and order a 2005 at MSRP. You can probably put a deposit down now at a local dealer and you will probably be able to get it in early August

yeah, i'd wait too. the increase should be minimal, $100 or so. since i bought my 2003 MCS a year ago the price on a twin to my car is up only $125 i think. i don't see why MINI USA would go higher. whatever you do, don't pay over MSRP, no car is ever worth over list price especially a car like this with over 20,000 produced every year, be patient, it'll be worth it! go for the '05.

There are a couple of typical answers to this dilemma.

One is to buy from NAM sponsor Classic MINI in Cleveland or MINI of the Hamptons in Long Island and have the car shipped to you. MINI of the Hamptons had a $500 shipping deal going on a while back, and Classic recently advertised about having cars in stock. Check out the Sponsor Directory part of the site.

The other option would be to find the car you want at any of the dealers in the US that sell at MSRP, fly there, pick it up and take a road trip back home. It might be more expensive than shipping, but you get a vacation and a head start on break-in that way. The Dealer Ratings will help you find places that sell at MSRP.

Either way will solve your problem. Good luck!

Just about 200 miles to your north is Jackie Cooper MINI in Okla City. They sell at MSRP and just a couple of days ago, had a few 04's on the lot well equipped. It's worth a call if you don't want to wait on a 05. Just a thought
