Cigarette lighter power without ignition on?

Is that maybe a computer setting we can change? Because I turn the engine off as soon I've parked and don't start until I'm ready to go. I want to put a USB fan to blow on me or the dog in the cigarette lighter. And would like to be able to leave the fan running if I leave the dog in the car (for a few minutes only, of course.)

No. The cigarette lighter is hardwired through the ignition switch.

There are some always-on fuses in the fusebox. Tap into one of them with an Add-a-Circuit.

You can also do it with the USB port (power lasts for 5-10 minutes after off). If your USB port is filled, it does accept a USB hub.

I don't have a USB port. It's an '05.

The power outlet in the boot stays hot all the time.

Really? I'm sure I've tried using my compressor without the key in the ignition and it didn't work.

Anyway, that helps the dog. Not me so much.

Not in mine ('06), and the wiring diagram shows front and rear power outlets on the same circuit.

As I said, find an always-on fuse and tap into it with an
Add-A-Circuit Add-A-Circuit
. Fuse F24 will probably work.

Not in my wife's 2004. I just re-checked.

My 2003 is the unfortunate vintage with NO rear power outlet...

Just go to the fuse block...use a fuse tap...and wire up the item you want....just make sure the fuse you tap is one that always stays hot....I always try to pick a non-critical item to use the tap with...so if the fuse were to get loose or something from using the tap, it will not leave you stuck.

Thanks for the suggestion of fuse F24. That looks like it will work well for me, to wire up an outlet in the boot.

Hah. I forgot I asked about this. Interesting. How do you go about making it look pretty?
