GEEEZ...I can't believe how many people just come up and that is the first thing they ask! Some people may not thinks it's a big deal, but I think it's rude.

Do you get asked?? The only reason I'm glad the dealership is so far away from me is everyone around here thinks it's too far to drive to buy one and get it serviced. I like not seeing them all over.

That's my .02 cents worth.

People ask me how much ALL my cars cost.
Not just the MINI. Don't take it so bad. I
think for most folks the question is really...
"Gee, I wonder if I could afford that?"

I agree with 2minis ,most folks want to know if they could afford one,and are happy to hear what it costs,But most people ask about gas mileage first, then car costs,

As soon as I read the title to the thread I knew I had to write something<g>. If I hear one more person ask: "have you seen 'The Italian Job,'" "is your car fun to drive?," "do you like it?" or "how much does it cost?" I'm gonna run off screaming down the street, babbling to myself in Swahili.

It's a common question.

The funny thing is that some people are surprised by how much it costs and others by how little!

I get people asking about the cost all the time, along with the gas mileage question. (One particularly uninformed passerby even asked if it was electric!) I'm slightly offended by the question too, but I guess it just shows how interested people continue to be in MINIs. My standard answer is "They start around 19," even though I have an MCS with most of the options that was significantly more than that.

a little story to entertain the masses on this subject. I was in the NC mountains before the 03 dragon run. I stopped to get gas and had a lady pull up beside me in her Mercedes compressor convertable. She procedes to ask "Isn't that the new MINI by BMW?" I answer affirmatively, she procedes to ask "oh, those cost about 60 thousand don't they?I really want one." You will never know how much I wanted to say if she'd pay 60K for a MINI I'd sell her mine on the spot, but, being a polite southerner I just educated her as to the actual cost. Sigh. Sometimes it doesn't pay to by honest.

The price of the cars is not "a secret", it is public knowledge. They can either get the price from a dealership, a phone call to MINIUSA, or surfing to http://www.miniusa.com ... OR better yet, why not be friendly and just tell them. For the love of MINI, let's be friendly. Let's be kind. Let's be civil. Let's MOTOR!

I love telling people the price! Sometimes I say the dollar amount I paid, other times for people who know I had a Honda Accord V-6 Coupe, I just say, same as a New honda Accord V-6 coupe....

I then tell them to go to MINIUSA and trick one out for themselves!
The prices are MSRP so there's no guessing! and one person isn't getting a different price for the same car because they know the salesman, or because they are pretty, or because they belong to the manager's church, etc.... we've all seen how it goes. And I just never appreciated it.

I love MINI! because the price is the price! No matter who you are, who you know, what you do, etc....

People ask about the cost as well as "is it fun", "how's the gas mileage", "do people actually fit in the back", etc. I don't mind at all. It's nice that people are curious and willing to strike up conversation. If you were gassing up next to a Hummer, wouldn't you be curious to know how much they are paying for a tank of gas?

People ask me all the time. Some warehouse workers asked me just yesterday--as they admired my car as I delivered raw materials for the manufacturing of a new product. I don't take offense. I know they want to buy one too, and they are always shocked when I say it starts around $17K, and even when I say, the one you see here is around $26K with CA Tax, they are still amazed!

My husband decided to shop around for better costs on insurance for my 03 MCS and his USED 03 land rover discovery SD (or as we say "stripped down&quot. One agent had the nerve to say " Wow, you guys have some expensive cars". Imagine this agent's dissapointment when he learned both cars were under $25,000.

section8,

Don't be put off be the negativity. Most NAM members would have let the caps lock thing go without comment.

I made some 4x5 printed index cards with the basic MINI information when they asked. Then I learned they could not read, or were just wanting to yap at me about my fusion drive space-racer. Then I had to explain that I was handing out the cards to keep from going mad by telling the same thing to every person who asked about the car. It really did not work. So I just gab away with them now.

No, I did not get a good deal 'I paid MSRP sticker price'. That is always a jaw dropper.

I get asked quite a bit, too. I think it's sort of rude, but I know they don't mean anything by it. They're jealous!
