The MINI has tons of room, just don't expect anyone to fit into the back seat!!

I dunno about that, One time I had myself, 6'2 at about 240# in the passenger's seat, and 6'4-250 and 5'9-200 in the back. Once seats were positioned optimally, we were on our way. The look on people's faces as this all fuzzy-faced crew piled in and out of the car was a hoot.

There was plenty of headroom in the back, but legroom was kinda wanting all around. It wouldnt work for a long trip, but for our little trek, it was worth it.

My 6'10" co-worker insists that he fits in my Mini just fine. He does, but as the driver, I'm less than totally comfortable with the fact that there's only about 1' between the top of his head and the bottom of my headliner. I drive ve-e-ery conscientiously when he's in the passenger seat!

Not long ago we were preparing for an out-of-town trip that included luggage and boxes of stuff, when another co-worker asked if she and one other person (and their baggage!) could carpool with us to the airport. Love my Mini, but they'll have to experience it some other time!

Here's something you should all try! If you are over 5'9", then sit in the passenger seat with it scooted all the way forward. I endured a ride like this for 30 minutes, and it was pure torture. It was bad at first, but over time, my legs started finding miniscule amounts of room to sort of slide into. 30 minutes later, it wasn't as bad, but it's not an experience I want to repeat.

So why would anyone intentionally do anything so masochistic?

I had my 4 month old in the back seat--in his infant seat. I was dead tired from an all day event, and let my wife drive instead. I couldn't sit behind her because there was already another passenger back there.

Try this once, and you'll wish the MINI was just a tad larger. LOL

I didnt take any pics of that incident, though I wish I did. Next time the opportunity presents itself, I will do it. It'd be a shame NOT to!

Seriously, I need to see that! The way I have my seat, you'd have to sit with your legs crossed in the back!

Seems to me that, it is the lot in life of XXL people to deem services to a world that expects us to know certain things.. to be a big person is to know

" Do you fit in ___?"
" Do you know where the good restruants are around here?"
" Will _____ (ex bridges, tables, chairs) hold up to your wieght?"
" What should I order?"
" What size des this ______ go up to?"

and we also give hope to millions by dating women or men tottally out of our league.. so that men/women that are not nearly as ugly as we are can stand back and ask themselves why they can't find women/men like ours, knowing damn well they are better looking than us.

I don't mind handing out these serivce, hell I know the answers more times than not. BUt I do laugh at the insensitivity to some people.

Interested lurker

Hi, I am interested in buying a MCSC. I am 6'4" and I have two kids; a 4 year and a 2 year old. The car would be used as a daily driver and for fun and I would ocassionally have to pick up or drop off the kids (1-2/week). It was good knowing that 6 foot somethings fit!

But I must make sure that my kids are not squealing in the back when they do have to ride with me.

What is the general consensus? Can my kids tolerate 30-60 min rides in the back when I am driving? I know that before I buy the car I will go to the dealer and put the kids in the back of the MINI with their car seats and with me sitting in the front. Any experiences?

TIA,
BTW, this is a great site.

If it's just you and your 2 kids, it should be fine, as you can push the front passenger seat all the way forwards, and have plenty of room in the back. It will likely turn out that you will need to put the 2 year old behind the passenger seat since he will need to be in a rear facing infant seat and they take up lots of room. The 4 year old can be in a booster, and since he'll be elevated, there shouldn't be an issue about leg room, despite you having your seat pushed back to fit your 6'4" frame.

I'm in a bind right now cause my 4 month old is as big as many 1 year olds, and in one case--he's heavier than his 2 year old cousin--which means that he needs a new infant seat, and I no longer will have the convenience of a travel system (base staying inside the car).

Good luck!

Just point out the last page of this Motortrend article. The standard Cooper S has more leg and shoulder room than a Hummer H2 and only one inch less head room (I guess the meatheads that drive those monstrosities need it.)

I'm 6' 220 lbs with a big frame and I have no problems, and I have a friend that's 6'7" 250 pounds and he's very comfortable in the passenger seat (blew him away!)

And I also have no problems gettin in or out, and I can't say that about my buddy's Lexus SC400. Amazing little cars! Jimbo

It's weird how you get so used to the head room.... when I had a Dodge Stratus as a rental car last week, the first time I got in it I hit my head on the door frame. The extreme slant of it surprised me.... I also felt like I was going to hit the rear view mirror with my head... it ws so close.

Yeah those sloping Chrysler A-pillars are a pain, that's why I avoid Stratuses when I rent, too many head bruises. And the new 300-series aren't much better. Talk about poor visibility with them teeny little windows! I wuv my Mini  Jimbo

But what about the pedals?

Two Things

When we first went for a test drive my now 6 year old daughter was a lot shorter than she is now. She was extremely uncomfortable because her feet were caught between the base of the rear seat and the back of the front seat.

But, now that she's taller and her feet reach the floor she actually has more room. With her feet touching the floor they fit nicely under the front seat. So, remember, that has to be ratcheted up a bit.

Now, my question -- I drove a convertable last week. It was the first time I drove an '05. Have they done something to the pedals? I seemed to have more trouble heal and toeing in the 2005 than in the older ones.

Ahh this thread brings back memories I was trying to forget. I'm 5'10 and fit great along with most people I try to cart around, even in the back seat. A few months back I went to pick up my old roommate who is a VERY heavyset fellow (most likely 300+) I figured no big deal he'll fit fine upfront...little did I know he was going to bring someone else along who happened to have a bunk knee and can't bend it so I nearly had a heart attack watching my old roomie wedge himself in the backseat...low and behold he fit just fine but I can't say I'll allow it to happen again...eak!
