Oil or Gas Additives?

Just curious, do you use any oil or gasoline additives? What? Why? Results?

I never have and in turn never had a problem. There might be a few good products out there but I consider all of them snake oil.

Snake oil unless you have a specific reason to use one ..like an injector cleaner like techron once an oil change....
The stuff you need is already in your gas and oil....
Just like vitamins....in one opening...out the other...a waste of $$.

I dump a can of Seafoam in my gas tank every now and then. Not sure if it helps, but it sure doesn't hurt anything.

Nope and nope.

No disrespect to Mr. Shelby but even his august personage was not sufficient for me to add Z-Max to my oil, just as Mr. Granatelli never convinced me to use STP.

When I need more octane, I use Avgas - not an additive.

The Seafoam debate is another matter, and I have no experience and therefore no comment.

Cheers,

Charlie

Best additive I can come up with is a wee dram of fine whisky or a pint of an exceptionally robust craft porter at the end of a day of motoring.
An Italian tune-up does about as good a job as any, just take it on a back road once in a while and blow the cobs out of it.

Any gas is going to have detergents in it. That's all Techron is. If you buy Chevron gas you are already getting Techron, if the brand of detergent is important to you.

i stored my evo for about a year and i put in some seafoam and chevron techron for fuel stabilizer - no harm done at least, it seems. anyway i doubt it would do much since the evo and the mini are always running 93, usually from shell or bp which have detergents of their own.

no oil additives, just running good 100% synthetic oil (not mobil1)

my 07 corolla is a different story. 180k miles on the clock, once it comes back i am gonna dump in a whole bunch of crap and see if it does anything. always on 87 and whatever gas is available, so i'm sure some stuff in the tank there.

another thing to consider is RMI25, which is for coolant. The only thing I've heard of that actually works and gets some respect on BITOG at least. if you've got an old car you may be shocked with the kinds of crap it cleans out of your cooling system - most people with old cars say they think they've had a headgasket failure after using it because of all the debris that gets cleaned up. I'm pretty OCD about rust since my cars usually sit for so long, so I'll be adding some to all of my cars.

I use BG44K fuel system cleaner every now and again. I've had the odd stumbly idle and it's fixed it every time. I think it's similar to using a concentrated dose of Techron
