100,000 with mods
i also have the bmp short shifter
so good to hear how problem free your mcs has been. i have just over 23,000 miles and with the exception of a few rattles it has been problem free (june 2003 build). still planning on a milltek or rspeed exhaust and hsport rear anti-sway bar.

He drives 140 miles a day to go to work and back, at what rate is he not suppose to continue. He’s providing for his family no matter what car he drives, he will still have to go 140 miles a day.
At the time he did, I bought my MINI and was driving the same miles a day to work maybe more. I traded a new car for my MCS that had 65000 miles on it in a little over a year. I was fortunate to move closer to work about the time I bought the MCS. I’m now lucky to put 250 miles a week on my car, but I miss the drive and I miss the fact I could have been doing it in my MINI. I did do the drive in a car for over two years that was 12 years old and it took its toll on the older car in repairs.
Doug is a very lucky guy to be making his drive everyday in an MCS while it’s new because an old car is not what you want to do 60K a year in and I know this for a fact.

Doug,
it's amazing that you've had as few problems as you have listed. it's great to hear of cars (with and without modifications) that have been relatively trouble-free.
i often get worried when reading threads about this problem or that problem and forget that most folks don't post that they've had thousands of trouble free miles in their MINIs.
it's good to see that 100k is not a problem and mods haven't adversely affected your repair bill:smile:
happy motoring and godspeed on your next 100 thousand.

My 2003 March delivery MINI S just tripped over 11,000 yesterday on the way home from work. At this rate it will be about 15 years old when I hit a 100K. We tend to drive cars into the ground between my wife and I. So I will be "stuck" with TIKI for a long time. I only drive it to work when the weather is perfect and I drive a 92 Maxima with 100,000 + on it when the weather is anything else. It was my wife's car before I bought her a Lexus in 98, which now is at 65,000miles.
Congratulations, and please tell us about your car's life experiences sometime when you have some free time.

Looking forward to a writeup. I think being in the South helps cars longevity (better roads, no harsh salts/sands in the winter). A MCS with 100,000MI in Michigan is certainly possible, but once it get's much past the 100,000 mark- quite possible that the wallet will need to open up often
I trust the engine core (cams, pistons, etc.) and transmission (MCS) to last 100k, but not so sure about the electricals, sensors, etc... At the rate I'm going now, tho, it'll be about 7 years before I hit 100,000MI! By then, I'll most likely be driving zomething different... Maybe diesel???

Ok gang here is a little write up
MEMOIRS OF A 100,000 MILE 2002 MINI COOPER S
In June of 2002 during our summer vacation I ran across an article in a magazine on the new MINI Cooper S’s. I mentioned to the wife that this is a car that looks like it would be fun to drive instead of the Chevy pick-up that I normally drive back and forth the 140 miles to work five days a week.
After a few weeks of looking at the specs I located my nearest dealer in Palm Harbor Florida about an hours drive from our house in the woods. We drove down to the Ferman Mini dealership on a Saturday 7/27/02 morning to look at the cars that were available for sale. We went for a test drive in the vacant parking lot located next door. My wife got into the back seat with me up front in the passengers seat. The salesman took off like normal until we got to some of the corners. My eyes went wide and I heard from the back seat my wife gasping about how the car stuck in the corners at such speeds as he proceeded to accelerate. At this point I was sold on the car. After I drove the car for the test drive he asked if we were interested in buying. I said “Yes” of course. We bought the car that we test drove right then. It was such good luck to get the color I wanted. Chili red & white Cooper S. From that time forward I have enjoyed this car more than any other car that I have owned. Now I enjoy two lane roads again because I can pass with ease.
I found other MINI owners on North American Motoring from Florida. This led me to the Sunshinemini web site. I went to a lot of the meets and found others as crazy about this car as I was. Received a lot of information from them and the web sites on how to fix the car to what I wanted. The very first thing I did was to place two 6” wide white strips down the bonnet and the boot. I thought if it goes fast in the corners it might as well look like it. From there I have replace the rear sway bar, springs, exhaust, intake & hoses, plugs, 15% pulley, rear lower control arms, smaller antenna, short shifter, strut brace, ECU work and painted the silver interior to match the red out side color. Most of these items have been on the car for over 60,000 miles. I do auto cross from time to time for the fun of it using other tires and wheels. I would like to do more auto crossing. Maybe in the future I will do more.
We have taken the car on two long vacations out West so far. Last year we went all the way to the Glacier National Park. This year was the Grand Canyon and the surrounding areas. Both trips were around 6,000 each. We take the interstate roads to get to the areas we plan on visiting and then switch to the more scenic road around the areas. On both trips we saw only a couple of MINI’s. I would like to see more. At no time during these long trips did we have any troubles with the car. We have also been to many MINI & Mini meets here in Florida and one up in the Carolina’s.
A few problems that have been fix are: Airbag light, O2 sensor, belt and idler pulleys and 2 windshields. I have another windshield to be replace this week from rock damage in Houston. I just think that the windshield problem is just my bad luck for the miles that I put on this car. I change my oil about every 5,000 miles. I think this helps a lot even though they say you can go longer. I run on the 17” Dunlop performance tires 95% of the time. I like the way they handle in all conditions for my normal work commute.
Would I buy another MINI? OH Yes. But I will wait and see just what the new models will have first. I think the wife wants mine even if I decide to get another.

Congrats
I'm glad to see the high-mile MINI's!!!! I have come to expect a car to last a long time and have a track-record of piling up the miles. My '89 CRX - 110,000; '92 civic - 260,000; '99 Mustang - 156,000. Now I have had my MINI for 10 months and 9 days (who's counting ) and I have 32,000 (s)miles. I wont quite hit the 2yr, 100,000 mile mark, but I'll be trying.....and loving every mile !!!
