Clutch Pedal Throw

Hello All!

In my continuing saga to improve my 05 R53, I am looking into the throw of the clutch. The clutch is a little difficult to use (for my wife) as the usable distance of the pedal us very tight. It seems that within a distance of only .25% of the pedal is when the clutch is either slipping or fully utilized.

Is this how it is on most cars? I know in past trucks/cars that I have had it has been around 1/3-1/2 of the pedal is usable to work the clutch instead of 1/4 or less. My wife hates my car because it is "hard to drive".

Let the trashing begin on what the wife thinks but this does not seem right. I may just need to bleed the system. Thoughts?

Any idea what clutch is in it?
I'm guessing the lack of throw is from a grippier higher performance clutch being installed....many folks get them, not realizing they often have an on/off feel, with a shorter life from the grippier material being used...
The fix...
A new OEM style clutch...

^This^ X1000. There are so many reasons to go stock replacement vs. 'performance' clutch.

I hoped that this would not be the case but it was in the back of my mind. The clutch had just been replaced right before I bought the car and I dont know what brand or type they used.

I recently got my car (06 S ragtop) back with from the shop with a new OEM clutch. The old one was slipping some after 157K. With the old clutch, the engagement range discussed above was in the bottom 1/3 of the travel. With the new one, its in the top 1/3. I was thinking that maybe I would get used to it, but after 5 days, it still feels wrong. Except for that issue, I love it. The old clutch must have been slipping more than I realized, because now I feel like I have more power (or maybe it just the feel of a Mini vs those crappy rentals). Anyway, should I look into getting something adjusted, or keep trying to get used to it the way it is?
