R50/53 Mini Cooper Recall

sorry to hear H_C of your bad experience at your local dealer :(
Maybe there is another you could try.
I had the seat/mat replaced last October. Took about 1 1/2 hours. The tech (Frances )ALWAYS does ALL of our work.
He has done about 100 of these. Seemless and perfect. Updated the ECU as well
We are VERY fortunate to have the BEST Mini dealer in the USA ( imo)
ALWAYS there to help. Goes above AND beyond. Even lets me DRIVE IT IN the bay !!!
AND watch and learn !!!!!!
VERY LUCKY !!!!!

Just want to give everyone here a heads up...
I went to the dealership a couple weeks ago (for an airbag light). They typed in my VIN to see if any warranty work was done (all were done before I bought it).
Even though the dealership "fixed" the warranty covered items (O2 sensor, passenger airbag seat sensor, etc), the issues resurfaced (O2 sensor went bad and the airbag light went back on). This was all done in 2016.
Now they will not fix these resurfaced issues unless I paid in full.
It's not a biggie for me (I have jack stands and tools) but its shady that they won't honor their work. After a year of them "fixing" the car, it was worse off than it was before (There were bolts and trim pieces missing).
So, if you have a 1st gen Mini under warranty, you're better off doing your own work.

Ask to have a word with the area Service Rep..As a MINI Parts Adviser for 7 yrs, I saw about a dozen brand new seat mats for this recall arrive broken to the dealer , having to be re-done again before delivery to customer...so they were sending us defective recall seat mats.... And I have a friend with same situation with 02 sensor as well. Changed for the recall only to come back again. Eventually MINI tech located a tiny pinhole in the OEM exhaust manifold....hard to find but was there tripping a code. Smoke test was done 2 times I think.

I just got a letter for my 2006 R53 which I knew had this recall outstanding when I bought it in 2016, I have never had any warning lights with regard to this issue.
I have an appt at my dealership in a couple weeks.
My concern is this: I have a Checkmate with the special edition upholstery and the service advisor told me that they remove the upholstery and replace the mat and put the upholstery back. I cannot understand how this is possible; I examined the underside of the seat and it looks like the seat base is fused to the upholstery of the front bottom of the seat.
Can someone who has had this repair done tell me how they did it? Pics if possible.
Many thanks

BTW, I looked at your thread with all the pics of your rehab work. NICE JOB!! I've done things to mine here and there to both fix and improve things (redid the viper stripes, removed a lot of old plastic chrome the prev owner stuck on, replaced the tach binnacle to correct an electrical issue, a lot of cleaning and spiffing up) but I am not a technical systems person so I am very impressed!

For OEM fabrics on seats we use these things called Hog rings. your foam cushion has metal bars running through it where the seams are. There is plastic between the seams *under the leather* that we crimp these metal rings onto, and then onto the foam, from the underside of the foam.
If you google Hog ring for seats you can see what I am talking about
Hope this helps.
