Does Mini USA offer an extended Warranty program?
Do you know the cost and coverage?
Thanks!

Yes it does, more than that I don't remember, it's been a while since I went through that process.

MINIUSA doesn't offer an extended warranty, as far as I know. Individual dealerships might offer 3rd party extended warranty though.

BMWUSA just started experimenting with extended warranty, so I think it won't be long before MINIUSA offers one.

It offers both, actually. I ended up getting the warranty because I don't ever plan on selling Charlie. My MA was really cool about it. He even checked with their service manager to see how they'd feel about an intake and exhaust before I got it. They also have a tire plan which covers any failures in the tire for 2 years. That even works with aftermarket wheels.

I think both warranties were about $1700 ($1500 for the 6/100k and 250 for the tire). Worth it IMO.

So MiniUSA does offer a 60/100000 warranty?

Is it bumper to bumper, as the original factory warranty? Does it also increase the free service period?
Thanks!

$1500 does seem like the numbers they were quoting for BMWs.... Maybe they are offering it for MINIs as well. Was there a $100 deductible?

It it bumper to bumper. It does increase the service (from what I remember) to 50k. They did also offer a 7/100k warranty, but I figured that I would run out of miles before I run out of years, so I got the 6/100k.

I'm under the assumption that its MINI's warranty. The paperwork says EasyCare Gold on it, but it looks like they made the actual paperwork as opposed to the warranty itself.

Either way, it does the job. Reading the fine print, I can't find a difference between their wording and the warranty thats in my glove box.Oh, and I got it at time of purchase, so I don't know if you can add it on later.

NO bmw/Mini ex. warranty:buyer beware

There is NO extended warranty product offered by either BMW/Mini at this time or in the near future.
-If a Mini dealership offers one, it is a product from an "outside source".
-There are several potential concerns and many consumer complaints against warranty providers.
-Buyer be advised: Unless the dealer can answer all of your questions, provide detailed info about the warranty company (history & assets) and assure you that in 6 years company "X" will be solvent and running smoothly you should WAIT for a Mini/BMW warranty (industry insiders seem to think Mini/BMW will be in the game no sooner that 2006 and maybe not at all)
-There are many sad stories floating around the import car business about consumers who are left holding the extended warranty bag.
-If you have a car w/ ANY aftermarket mods keep in mind that extended warranty claims are often disputed & investigated by an agent working for the warranty company (not a Mini tech or BMW service rep!) This sugguest that a serious engine or drive-train warranty claim will be viewed with an eye towards assigning liability. Mods WILL play a part in this dialogue and the dealer may not be able to come to your defense.

I had an extended warrenty through Long Beach MINI, for 100,000/5 years.

Not sure who was actually behind it, but when I turned the car in at 38,000 miles I recieved a check for 1,219.88 dollars from "Long Beach Mini" for a warranty refund on contract. Every thing I saw seemed to be through the dealer.

Yes, MINI USA doesn't offer an official extended warranty yet. For those who purchased one, you have bought a third-party warranty. (and a fat commission to your dealer)

On the other hand, BMW USA does offer an extended warranty for BMWs. The program was supposedly launched in July. The cost is $2249 to extend to 6 years / 100k miles for a 3 series. As you can see, it is not cheap.
BMW also offers extended maintenance, to either 4 years or 6 years.

Right now MINIUSA only offers extended maintenance to 4 years; no extended warranty.

While I am not where near the 50K mile mark on neither of my MINIs, the subject of the extended warranty is certainly a concern. I don't understand why BMW doesn't offer extended warranty programs (I guess they want people to trade for another BMW product as soon as the warranty expires on the old car) like General Motors does. When you buy a an extended warranty from GM basically you eliminate all the issues often associated with third party companies when it comes to the proper handling and approval of warranty related claims.

About a month or so ago I had opened a similar discussion thread about the subject and there were very few responses. I am hoping that by the time my factory warranty expires in my MCS (October 2008) BMW/MINI will either offer extended warranty plans or perhaps will decide to trade then for a new '08 R56 MCS...we shall see.

Why would they?

If I was BMW I would not extend the warantee either.

It makes people keep their cars longer.

It takes care of a second buyer who is really not their customer.

It takes away a cash cow in repairs. BMW makes alot of $$$ in service. There are fewer repair shops that fix them as opposed to a japanese car.
