Coil packs
Ok...
I have been reading now in here for about an hour for this and I still cant pin point it. What is the best coil to get for a 06 R53 JCW?
1. OEM replacement.
2. I have heard/read horrible things about MSD.
3. Screamin Demon
4. Others?
I know what plugs I like. Same with the wires. I just cant figure out what coil to get. Or should I simply look for corrosion on mine and clean it without replacement at all.
I have over 100k on my motor and have no idea if the oem coil is original or not.
Ideas?

I would get an OEM coil. I have the MSD on my car (it came with it already on) but I've been tempted to put the OEM coil back on. I haven't had any problems with the MSD coil but I don't think it's any better than an OEM coil. I ran an OEM coil for 12 years on my first R53 and it was fine. Just watch the 3rd post for corrosion. It might be a good idea to put some dielectric grease on the posts but I'm not 100% sure about it yet.

OEM coil is the way to go. The MSD and Screaming Demon were designed and built for the PT Cruiser motor (the R53 has a Chrysler motor) not the MINI. PT Cruisers have a different electrical system and the aftermarket coils have in some instances fried ECU's because of the way they operate. It doesn't always happen, but why chance it for something that will show no noticeable gain in performance.

Yes, stick with OEM 12-13-7-510-738. Here is some info about doing the MSD coils when necessary for upgrades if interested.

Well, I went over to the ol dealer to price (as a joke for myself) an OEM Coil. They were 40 bucks over ..exactly like I knew they would be....but found something out. They give military discounts. Even to us old vets...lol The guy behind the counter was a cool guy and I got the OEM Coil for 104. Not freaking bad.

We have some full kits here:
12137510738 < I would do it all at once on the coil pack , spark plugs , and wires. We have some options and combos. You have the JCW Tuning Kit so you will need the ones Marked JCW for the full kit as the spark plugs are JCW Tuning kit specific. The wires and the coil are the same as the S, and NON S . Also put some die-electrical grease on the boots to the coil to keep moisture out.

We use and install the Screamin Demon coils all the time. I've yet to validate or see any damaged ECUs from using them and even run one on my car.
Also we get our Screamin Demon special so you can reuse the stock bolts and sleeves so no modification to install.
http://www.waymotorworks.com/screami...-coil-pak.html
2nd we use the OEM ones, but they get pricey.

We don't recommend the MSD, but people still like it cause it's red.

Then we offer complete kits with the plugs, coil, and wires

Turns out my dealer gives military discounts on parts so the oem was relatively cheap so that is the way I went, NGK "jcw" plugs and the wires I really wanted.
way, I like your business. I have purchased a few things from you and will continue to do so. Your prices are not that bad on the things I was searching for. I also liked how you reached out to me after I made a purchase and let me know of alternatives. Very cool. Thanks.

By the way, if anyone wants "jcw" plugs... Here is all the info you need: R53 JCW/GP: NGK: BKR7EQUP tightening torque 25-30nm (18-21.6 lbs/ft) thread diameter/pitch M14 x 1.25 socket size 16mm, electrode gap: pre set, heat range 7
$7.58 each. Damn. It cracks me up when people pay so much for a damn stamp.
One thing...the pic amazon has for the plugs is incorrect. Scared me for a minute until they arrived. They are the correct ones.

Nothing personal but I have seen your prices for the Genuine mini kit you have listed and wow. I know the model numbers for the "jcw" spark plugs you listed and I got an oem coil from the dealer along with 8.5mm magnecor wires along with the grease all for more than $100.00 cheaper than your kit. Thanks though.
Yep, no problem.
MINI has always had a high price on the Genuine MINI JCW gen 1 Spark plugs. They are used by MINI JCW, Rolls Royce v12 , and Some BMW M Cars. So I guess that's why the charge so much I guess. Aftermarket they are much less.

Yea, we are better priced on the aftermarket version ( NGK direct ) . We we talking about the price of the all Genuine MINI kit w/ JCW option vs. aftermarket kit.

Am I missing something ... ECSTuning's price is 2 cents cheaper than Amazon
http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2019667/
http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2019667/
I posted where I purchased mine, along with the brand of wires I purchased and the OEM coil pack from the dealer (with a military discount....which really just made the price normal, but I didnt have to deal with shipping.) ECS has it for the same price as my dealer for the coil.
His package for the oem coil package...the entire thing was uh...just a bit high.
Like I said, no disrespect. I have seen some good deals over there as well.
