More HP

I own a 2005 Mini Cooper Base (5 speed) and I want to add some more power. I know that it is pretty pricey and difficult to add super charging, but what are some other things I can do to add some power.

thanks

There is a search bar at the top of the page.
It can direct you to the answers you need since it's already covered

This is why you did not get any responses
Other than mine

Search around and then try to ask more specific questions pertaining to parts or installs that someone hasn't done already.

it will be hard to get more power. only since its a n/a motor. Hi flow filter, hi flow exhaust/manifold. those would be the cheapest ways for power

if you really wanna make the n/a motor scream, you could port and polish the head, cam it and get a tune to make her rev to 8500.

but you may wanna swap in the 6 spd at that point only because the 5 spd midlands you be able to manage the power.

to help power, get the lightest 15in wheels you can find, and ditch runflats if you have them, definently wakes up the car

Best thing to do is get an ECU tune. It will only add a few hp at the top end, but the power curve and drivability will be improved with more torque at the low end.

Spend your $$ on suspension, and brakes...maybe more drivers skills training...a good r50 driver can give a r53 driver a run for his money in auto-x....
Trying to add more power to a r50 is hard and $$....reality is, it is the same issue the Honda guys have, that is the motor is already making 95-98% of what it can for the displacement... So unless you add forced induction, you are at a mostly dead-end....sure you can put a cam in it, port the head, add an exaust, custom tune it...gain a few HP(guessing 10-20 at redline max)..for maybe $2000-$3000 if you go cheap.but less than a r53 with a $100 pulley on a SC...also typically 20-30.
So just keep in mind...no EASY CHEAP HP on an r50..

And supercharge one?! been discussed many times...not really an real option...r53 engine parts are FORGED, r50 are much lighter, compression differences, etc...
If you are desperate, a rear ended r53 for a full drivetrain swap (with ecu, keys.hood, tranny, etc) is a REAL OPTION...but a different car IMO would be simpler and cheaper.

Dialing in the suspension (options here if interested) will make a good difference in the driving performance. I always like to work from the ground up as well. Start with suspension, then move to small engine mods if desired. A good coil over, sway bar, and bushing (powerflex bushings are awesome) set up will really tighten things up.

2005 will have a Getrag 5-speed, not the Midlands.
Still not nearly as robust as the Getrag 6-speed, but will be ok with a little
extra power unlike the Midlands.
