Can the mini be programmed to be unlocked all the time?

I'm not in danger of being raped or car jacked, but my mini seems to think so.

When I drive off, all the doors lock. When I stop, if I don't take the key out, only the drivers door unlocks. When I hit the unlock on the remote once, only the driver's door unlocks.

Can it be programmed to be completely unlocked at all times, even when I clock the unlock button once?

This is super annoying.

that's for all minis, its a safty feature, locked doors are more rigid than non locked. they can be programmed out, I don't think the dealer will do it, you would have to use NCS expert

We can code that on your R53. $20. Two catches: you have to come to our Philadelphia headquarters to do it, and if you hit the key fob a second time, the driver's window will roll down.

I remember seeing something regarding the driver's window rolling down in one of the modules. Are you sure that can't be programmed out?

Here is an NCS thread on NAM. Take a look and see what you think, otherwise a local MINI indy shop may be able to further assist you.

got the owner's manual?

good news is that MANY of the various locking functions can be changed or deactivated. Read the section on the locking system (page 24 I think)

bad news is they are only changeable thru the computer on a GEN1, NCS is a way to do this but the dealer was the 'original' way. There are MANY programmable options on a GEN1 that the dealer could set up (DRLs on or off for example). Back in the day a good dealer would give you a check list b4 delivery and then program things as you wanted. Mine gave one free 'redo' as well! After that they charged some silly rate to make any changes.

Sadly of late I've heard of dealers just telling GEN1 owners "can't be done" .... I guess they can't be bothered anymore

One of the nice changes with the GEN2 was making most of these option changeable by the owner via the turn signal stalk . . .

I had the dealer turn off auto-locking before taking delivery.

Yeah, that's a little far from Florida but thank you for the offer

Neither my indy nor dealer will help.

I bought the car used and it didn't come with a manual. Pretty lame considering I bought it from the dealer.
