(high profile accident) "MBTA officers rescued after van plunges into Charles"

From Boston.com this morning.

Apparently the MBTA van collided a "Mini Cooper driven by a man who was making a U-turn to get out of traffic, sending the van over or through a railing and into the [Charles]river".

I hope all are okay.

 I turned on the TV and saw this guy being interviewed by a channel 7
reporter and I said,"hey, I know that guy, he drives a MINI."
Apparently, he was banging a U-turn near the Museum of Science but did'nt
see the Boston Police Paddy Wagon. Cops went thru the railing and into the
river! Mini driver charged, no one hurt, cops get bath, Mini wins again...

Well, I wouldn't say "wins" Causing an accident that sends cops to the hospital? Particularly when the cops have their lights and sirens on? I'd say that move will get the "Cooper" (it was an S, damit! ) driver in a world of trouble.

Proving, btw, that acts of vehicular stupidity are not limited to the SUV crowd.

It also proves what I've been saying about MINIs being as common as dirt up here in Boston. What's the chance of an accident like this happening to begin with...and with a "rare" car too-boot? Must not be too rare.

I can hear the MINI owner's excuse in court already:

"But, your Honor, it's just too easy making u-turns in a MINI!"

It'll probably be impossible to prove, but I'd put money on the odds that a cell phone was involved...
