Chrono-pak questions

Alright you guys, new owner here of a R53 hybrid, 04 car and trans, mostly 05 engine. To my awareness, the car was not previously a Chrono-pak car, but the PO installed it hoping it would work. Now the car is in my possession and I've got a mess on my hands. So I've read plenty into that you cannot retrofit a Chono/Nav/Reg between the series. I've asked my dealer and they give me the runaround of "have to check the wiring" and never really gave me a clear answer on if you can just "sync" the pak to the car. So the good news is that the PO is my best friend and a lot of parts were pulled from the 05 before the chassis was tossed. I guess the easiest way to get things to work correctly would be to put in the original cluster... But now I'm set on getting this Chrono-pak to work, but what else is needed? I have the 05 ecu, key, and ignition cylinder, technically would that combination serve correct to enable the chrono-pak and still have a key to start the vehicle? I'll have to get the spare parts to start fooling around, any thoughts are appreciated!

To start the car, you need the EWS module that matches the key (i.e. the EWS from the 05). Read about the EWS module in this document: http://www.bmw-planet.com/lib/mini/B...LECTRONICS.pdf

Read this thread for some general concepts about transferring electronics from one car to another: http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-gen...m-sat-nav.html. I think you'll also have to swap in the 05's Body Control Module from the passenger footwell.

A general problem you face is that some modules need to be programmed with the car's configuration (e.g. sunroof, xenon, auto a/c), but the modules that are locked to the VIN can only be coded once. So you could end up with a module that doesn't exactly match your car but it can't be reprogrammed.

To get the remote door lock to work, you'll probably also have to transfer some other modules. The remote lock electronics was updated in the 2005 model year refresh.

+1 rkw brings up some great points. The BCM will have to be swamped. Or a new one and re coded. 61356982114
