R53 Coilovers - Which set to buy?

I'm in the market for a set of Coilovers and really don't want to spend over $900. I'm interested in is lowering the car a bit, and some occasional spirited driving.

Would the AP Coilovers work well? (They are supposed to be for the R50). I can't seem to find any in the united states though. All are from overseas.

The VMAXX also interest me because of their price point, allowing me to upgrade the rear sway bar, and rear control arms sooner than later. I do understand that the quality is not as nice as the most expensive ones.

I would love for everyone's opinion, and the best place to buy them from as well!

Thanks in advance,

Codypantz.

Since your budget is $900, I would steer away from coilovers and instead purchase a good set of lowering springs and shocks. You really do not want cheap coilovers.
Maybe something like the Swift Spec R or TSW springs and Koni Yellow (adj) shocks.
You will also want to get adj rear lower control arms to adj the camber after lowering otherwise your rear tires will wear quickly on the inside edge.

WMW has a set with springs, control arms, and sway bar. You would need to add shocks. But that will be more than $900 with sway bar and control arms.

Check our Green Perf for Swift springs:

I was going to suggest ST X coil overs, but see you're in Minnesota. They're made by KW and basically the same as V1's, except without INOX bodies, shorter warranty, and lower price. The galvanized bodies on the ST's probably wouldn't last too long in the Minnesota winters, though. I went with the XTA's and love the way they ride and handle, and I don't have to worry about corrosion since I'm in CA and don't really drive the MINI in the rain.

If you are set on coilovers, I would still look at the ST's since I don't think any other coilover in your price range offers stainless bodies.

If you want to go with the best bang for your buck coil over, go with ST X coils here. They're manufactured by KW so you know they're quality coils. I have personally seen these installed on everything from daily drivers to big HP builds. Any type of lowering you do to your MINI you'll want to invest in a set of adjustable control arms to help with abnormal tire wear. Check out the Hotchkis arms here. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the input. The MN winters definitely play a huge role in the quality of coilovers here, so I found a deal for KW V1 coilovers for $700 in great condition. Purchased!
