Thule or Yakima Roof Racks on r53
Hey all my next purchase is going to be a set of roof racks for Barnaby. I am not wanting to drill any holes in the roof so I was thinking the thule or yakimas..with that being said can anyone chime in and direct me in the right place to order them from and what sizes I need. I want to be able to mount a bike, snow board, or luggage rack on there if needed too. And I want a wind blade on the front. I am looking for this setup in the pictures below if possible. Thanks all!!

I have the thule setup on my car. I picked up my set off REI when they had the 20% off car racks. They have new bars now that don't require the wind blade in the front.

i have the Yakima system, I got the cross bars and towers used, and just got the right clips for the mini, and then bought the carriage stuff as needed. I believe they use the same mounting points, and can use the same stuff to hold things, like bike carriers. just pick which ever one you get the best deal

When getting add ons don't forget about Rockymount:
Some pitchfork fit both systems and come in matching MINI colors.

I had a set of Thule square 50" load bars left over from my old 318ti.
I bought a new fit kit (Thule 1366), used aero foot pack (Thule 480) and a new short roof adapter kit (Thule 487); all of which I found on ebay. I don't have a wind deflector/spoiler.
It's not too loud, but you can hear some wind noise.

I see they sell the 48 and the 50" so I think ill go with the 48". I dont want it to overhang really. Do you like the rack and do you notice a difference in gas milage and noise?

I prefer Yakima racks my self , I've been using them for over 20 yrs . I would suggest going to a local sporting goods store or rack store , and seeing what they have on sale . Our you might also try Rerack.com that sales used racks or rackattack.com , they ship new stuff. I've dealt with both companies in Portland and always had great service.

Really even though the site says "slotted crossbars only"?
Thanks a lot man I will check these sites out today. I am leaning more towards the look and circular design of the Yakima as well.

I definently notice gas mileage, takes away about 2-3 on the highway over 60 mph, under 60 mph its like 1-2. the only noise is when I have nothing loaded on the bars, and some wind speeds will cause the bars to vibrate in the mounts which can be annoying since it resonates in the cabin. but my bars are also VERY old. and the paint is peeling. im sure if I freshly painted them that extra .005 thickness would help the vibrations. or even a piece of paper haha. when I have my ski rack fully loaded, no noticeable noise. especially since I have an exhaust and listen to music

The cool thing is rockymounts come in all those different color which helps because MINIs come in all different colors, not just the gray color scheme like other car makes.
