R50/53 Parking lot phobia.
#26
I have a parking lot/e-brake story to share: I auto cross regularly and about a year ago, I decide to take my friend's Acura RSX Type S for a spin during one of the "fun runs." After many twists, turns and heavy breaking, I park it in an open slot, put the car in neutral and pull the e-brake. Moments after I get out of the car and walk over to my friend, the driver of a Lamborghini Diablo VT pulls up behind me, stops the car, and starts chatting with some other people in the middle of the aisle.
My otherwise great day auto crossing turns tragic when some guy starts yelling around the track, "Anybody know who owns the RSX that just hit that Lamborghini?" My friend's car apparently inched back until it came to a rest on the front of the Diablo. It did no damage to the RSX, but the low-impact crash cracked the driver's side front clip of the Lamborghini. Believe it or not, the Lamborghini owner was very cool about it. He told us that the car had front end damage before and he was getting around to getting it fixed anyway, so don't worry about it.
Unbeknownst to me, the RSX has problems with its rear brakes and when I heated them up on my spirited run around the track, it only aggravated the problem. Even though I yanked the e-brake, it only slowed down the inevitable. Murphy's Law: if my car (or one that I was driving) is going to hit another vehicle, it is ALWAYS going to be the most expensive one within a 100-mile radius.
