R53 panoramic sunroof only will go up and down. Won't slide back.

My factory sunroof was stuck open so I replaced it with a used one but after installing it I see that this one only will go up and down. It will not slide back. It seems like it tries to go to the second stage to slide back. When I slide the switch the second time it tries to raise up in the drivers side a little and kind of makes a click noise but can't get past that. I am going to have to take it all back out and return it I guess. Any ideas I can try?

I'm assuming you disconnected the power supply to the sunroof at some point when installing a new one? If so, did you initialize the sunroof motor? Not that this will solve your issue, but you could see if it may fix it.

Thanks that was helpful.
I did the reset after I fixed the problem.
To fix it I raised the sunroof and removed the 2 torx screws on each side that hold the glass on the raised part. Then I lightly bumped the controls back and forth til I saw that it was going to work. Then reassembled. I also noted that one of the other little arms that helps raise the glass was out of position on one side and had to put it back the way it was supposed to be like the other side was.
I don't know if that's helpful but I fixed it. If someone needs more help with that maybe I can take some pictures and explain better.
