Doors and hatch don't auto unlock

2003 R53

When I turn off the car, I have to pull on the driver's door handle twice to get it to open. It seems the first pull unlocks the door, the second opens it. Then I go around to the hatchback to get my bag out, and I have to hit the key fob to unlock it, even though the car is unlocked.
Every other car I have had in the past 20 years, unlocks when I turn off the key. Is there a setting where I can turn this on? It is not a major thing, but gets annoying.
Also, I have a whistle coming from the top of the passenger door glass after about 50mph. What is the best way to fix it?

Thanks
Cy

You have to go the Dealer, or a MINI independent shop with programming ability, to have your car programmed to unlock on turning off the ignition. Not sure if this setting will unlock the hatch, too. Also, they can set auto locking (your car locks itself when first moving), one or two remote button presses for unlocking the whole car, and a bunch other options. Make sure you know all the options you prefer as it is probably the same price per programming session, not per item.

The programming cost should range from $0-$150 depending on how nice the place wants to be. It's a slight pain, but I'm just used to pulling twice to unlock the doors, or quickly unlocking the doors with the console switch when I have a passenger or know I'm going into the hatch when I get out.

Well, if it is going to cost me money, I'll just live with it. I thought I would be able to do a little "turn the key on 4 times, tune radio to 91.9, set heater to 78 degrees, roll windows up 6 times, and then honk horn for 4 seconds" kind of process to turn it on or off. Oh, well. I'm going in to have the power steering recall, maybe they will do it for me then.
Thanks.

The double-pull function on the door - yeah, a PITA.

The auto-lock function isn't for everyone, but you learn to live with it. If you know you'll be opening the hatch after you stop or letting a passenger in, just toggle up the unlock switch in the center stack.
