Come on people, the MINI won those rally's against cars with MORE horsepower and bigger chasis. That's what i love about the MINI's colourful history. It's not the fastest thing out there, but drivers on the road never truly let their guard down because they've heard so much about it's history for being a "giant killer"

I think the MINI is an awesome car the way it's been engineered for the 21st century. Strong links with it's heritage and great technological equipment for it's class.

....thanks to a wheelbase that is 120mm longer....[QUOTE]

NONONONONONONONONO 120 times NO YOU IDIOTS!

if we wanted a golf or a wrx or an evo we would have bought one!

LEAVE THE BASE CAR THE SAME SIZE. THE LITTLE GREAT CAR IS YOUR NICHE MARKET. LEAVE THE LARGER CAR NICHES TO OTHER CARS, INCLUDING YOUR OWN 1 SERIES.

if you want, make another version with a longer wheelbase. or petition to change the wrc rules. (which won't help you a bit. give up reliving your 1960s fantasy about beating ill handling rwd cars. you'll need 4wd and 280 hp) or take some of the expensive junk out of the car (electric windows, body computer) or wrc the 1 series.

That 120mm was for the 5 door wagon wheelbase, not the 2 door...

A little fun on the ice...

If Chrysler engines are so bad, you might want to exodus the one in the MCS you have there. The same engine is used in their "non-performance" Mexican Neon.

As for luck, maybe. Both did double duty as daily drivers and campaigned heavily as autox cars. They weren't babied. Coincidently, a few Caravans have been through my family's hands too. Several transmissions, but never an engine.

There is always the possibility that Mini will keep the "old" Mini in production, and add the larger versions, like Scion. I'm not sure what the homologation requirements are for WRC, but I still think a rally car limited edition is a good idea. When I think BMW I don't think AWD, but I guess anything is possible.

When you think BMW do you think FWD? Perhaps I've been driving my MINI backwards all these years!

speltzer, i sure hope you're right. there have been other mentions/hints about increasing the wheelbase for all the variants, so i rant at every opportunity in the (vain) hope that bmw will respond to an agitated bunch of owners who don't want a larger base car.

With a traveller version,5 door, does the wheel base get bigger,or is there just more car behind the rear wheels
Lifting the car abit and making it AWD for us up here in the Great White North would not be horrible. Not that I can't get around in snow, but alittle more clearence would not hurt.Don't really need the AWD.
