car and driver long term test

lo and behold, I just received my new car and driver mag. Towards the back they had the long term MCS test. Very informative for any non owners sitting on the fence not knowing whether to make move to purchase one. It had no major problems after 40K. The only thing they really complained about was the choppiness of the ride and some stumble although they didn't have a name for it.

It's a great ride. I plan to keep it and park it next to my horse

For those who don't get to read the article, the last line states, ".....but we all agreed that for lookin' good and feelin' fine, it's tough to beat." I think we'd all agree with them too!

I was surprised by the somewhat negative tone of the article. Autoweek has been much more enthusiastic about their long-term MCS (maybe because theirs isn't BRG?).

I didn't memorize everything, but one logbook comment said the Mini will only survive long-term if it can get by on its looks alone. Too rough, too hard to drive in traffic, etc.

Not at all what I expected from C/D! Maybe I'll send a letter to the editor. I don't know what they expected, or what they are comparing the car to when they come up with a conclusion like that.

To hard to drive in traffic compared to what.I have not been downtown for 4 months, highways and back roads latelyBut this past week I'm back downtown for awhile and traffic is great fun in the MINI.Sounds like someone can't shift well to me

I read it online today and these C&D guys aren't the sharpest tools in the shed that's for sure. No solution for the opaque sunscreen? Too torpid in traffic? What a bunch of weenies.

I haven't subscribed with them in years...online is best because you get what you pay for! And that's what C&D is worth.

Long-Term Test: Mini Cooper S

I'm surprised no one put a link to the article.

I drive my MCS every day....

Reguardless of any car reviews this MINI is the most fun you can have on the road.
The only magazine that counts in my book is Grassroots Motosports anyway they look at cars the way I do.
The MINI in town on the track or interstate is a pleasure to drive in case your reading this and don't know it yet.

I really like Car & Driver generally. I think it's the funniest car magazine out there. Their "road tests" of submarines, landmine-detection tractors, Soviet junkmobiles, etc. crack me up.

The legitimate road tests are well written, technically on-the-mark, and certainly take an enthusiast's point of view. That's what surprised me about their long-term Mini recap. I expected them to go on and on about "smiles per hour" and all that, not complain about how it drives in traffic.

Well, it is harder to drive in traffic than my R1100R.
Maybe they meant in relation to motorcyles???

Interesting information on the 19% pulley from Grassroots. Looks like it isn't so reliable and not as much as the 15%. Blown headgasket, broken belts...

Been reading Car and Driver since it was "Sports Car Illustrated", or something like that. It was a long time ago.

They are still amusing but after that road test and current issues, it seems they are going to Truck and Driver.

Complaining on an on about snow tires that they installed, and complaining about a stiff ride. Please. Get a van.

regards,
Red
