R53 ac only cold on passenger side
hello everyone. I've got a 2006 r53 with auto climate control that seems to only put out cold air on the passenger side and barely cold on the drivers side. Confirmed by using a thermometer. Also. My glovebox air flap no longer lets out any air into the glove box. I don't care about the glovebox but it may be related? Can anyone give me any places to start looking? If my freon was low the passenger side wouldn't be cool since its a single zone system. I'm confused because I think there is only one flap that controls opening up the system into where the heater core is. My heat works great.
Let me know what I can try.
Thanks

On late 90's/early 2000 BMW's, it would indicate low refrigerant. Best way to use a set of gauges and monitor high and low side if you add refrigerant. If no gauges, try adding 1/2 can (low side ONLY) and if you notice improvement, you are heading in the right direction.
If no improvement, then something else is amiss.

Jerry

So for anyone that has an R53 with cold air only out of the passenger side vents and warm air on the drivers side. Your refrigerant level is low.

This was the problem. I added half a can of DuPont Suva r134a and its ice cold at all vents. We will see how long it lasts. I'll find the leak someday.

AC cold on passenger side drivers takes long time to equalize

Hi, I have the exact same problem started noticing it recently is it safe to add just 1/2 a can without over filling it? My car is a 2005 Cooper S and have only started noticing the AC issue this summer. I have never serviced the AC on the car have been original owner since new.
Thanks

yep, with the high temps in the summer we get system will over pressure and shut off.
Measure the pressure with a gauge. Most refill cans have them built in.

Hi, I have a question about circulation actuators, with the issue with drivers side taking a long time to cool vs passenger side with AC on, I did notice that with AC off once the car warms up warm air actually comes in all the vents when setting is on the coldest, does anyone know how to fix an actuator for controlling drivers side? Could it be a fuse or anything like that? I'm not spending hundreds to fix this as I'm likely changing the car in a year or so. The AC/Heating controls are manual so not sure if there are actuators involved only the re-circulation has an actuator but the temp control is manual dial and on the coldest setting without AC still vents warm air when the car is warmed up.
Thanks
