Alternator question for swap

Can anyone confirm or deny a question regarding r50 and r53 alternator interchangeability for me?

Long story short, I'm in process of gathering parts for a turbo conversion. One of the affected parts is the alternator. I have been told that the r53 alternator can be mounted to the r50 location with slight modification, but that the pulley is a different size and would have to be changed to the r50 version. Apparently the electrical plugs are different between r50 and r53 models as well, which is what prohibits using a standard r50 alternator for the swap...any truth to this as well?

I'd hate to buy another alternator and find out it's the same general part just with a different pulley.

Thanks guys!

The alternators themselves are different, both in size and in amperage.

If you're looking for the best information on a turbo swap you should find Chase Gamblin, sorry don't have his username, but he's got a bad turbo car...

Hmm, that presents a problem then. The other problem I've found will be the wiring...the r53 uses a 3 pin connector, whereas the r50 only uses a two pin plug. I'll have to look up Chase Gamblin then and pick his brain. Thank you!
