Cooling System Opinions?
Hey guys!
My MINI recently started throwing P1028 (thermostat) and P0171 (running lean) codes.
Additionally, my supercharger needs servicing, and some other things need done too, so I figured I'd get some opinions on my theoretical shopping cart before I go and buy some wonky aftermarket parts. Currently, the list is as such:
As far as the water pump flange, can I just replace its o-ring? Victor Reinz sells just the o-ring for $5 on amazon.

- Cardone FR Axle
- TYC Radiator Fan Assembly
- Wahler Thermostat
- MINI Thermostat Housing
- GMB Water Pump
- Water Pump Flange
- Victor Reinz Supercharger Intake Gasket
- Victor Reinz Throttle Body Gasket
- 3L of Pentofrost NF Coolant
- Redline Water Wetter
- Gates Belt Tensioner

If you're going to be doing the cooling system, might I suggest you check out our water pump super kits here? They're great kits that include the thermostat and water pump, plus more. We also have the water pump flange here for less. Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, when you're in there doing the job, you can clean the groove in the flange of any corrosion that may be left behind. Be careful not to gouge the surface of the groove or the sealing surface. If the flange is corroded all the way through then it's a good idea to replace it. Otherwise, if it's fine you can put a light coat of silicone grease on the new O-ring and fit it into the groove on the back of the flange. We have the new o-ring here for $2.
