As for the question about expensive..

Considering that my company (over the past 2 years) has only awarded us with a 2% increase (less than the cost of living) and that gas has jumped about a dollar over the past few weeks, yes it is that expensive. I agree that we in the US are paying lower than our European and Canadian (and basically everywhere else) counterparts, but it still hits the bottom line.

I cannot stop driving (yet) and currently do about 450 miles a week commuting and running around, so I feel the sting when it's time to do "fun" things. I hate worrying about having enough cash to pay for gas over the next few weeks. Don't get me wrong, either, I make a comfortable salary but start cutting into my "fun-money" and I get upset.

Side note, I ride my motorcycle in the summer to lessen the sting of high gas prices, but when it takes about $20.00 to fill a 5.5 gallon tank on a motorcycle that hurts too.

ARGGGGGGGG Fishkill!!!. I absolutely despise the police up there, i got pullled over six months after having my MCS and i wasnt even speeding, the cop came up and asked for license and registration and said that he just wanted to check the car out!
As flattered as i was, his second remark was "I love the new volkswagens and yours looks great"
I kindly told him that this wasnt a volkswagen that it was a MINI and then he gave me a ticket for "attempting to outrun an officer" because i went to the exit ramp and pulled over there because it was right next to me when he put his lights on!!
I fought that ticket and one, but i have absolutely no tolerance for the fishkill police and i take a longer route to get to the CIA, where my sister goes to school

Here in the SF bay area, 91 octane is around $3.74 (last week). Cost me about $48 buck to fill last week.

Man, all you people with the $3.19 and up prices for gas are making me jealous. Last night I put some fuel in my MCS, it had --- left on the range indicator. So, I put 14 gallons of 91 octane (the highest we can get in CA), and my bill was $49 and change. I think the price I paid per gallon was $3.69.

That sucked!!!

This will confirm I'm a codger, but when I started driving in '67, full serve at major brand stations was $0.23 per gallon; self serve was $0.17 to $0.19. My last fill was Friday at $2.69 per gallon. The reality check was in the price hike during Katrina / Rita when it took $20 to fill my motorcycle - old BMW with a 6.4 gallon tank.

My gas bill since the 9th of the month is about $375. I need to stop driving so much . 3.69 a gallon here in SoCal. I get between 20 and 22 MPG with mostly city driving. Gas has been $3+ a gallon for the last few years here.

At least we can still buy it.
I drove from Beaumont to San Antonio to pick up my first car. '73 Fury III with a 400 cu. big block. "No replacement for displacement!"
Anyway, I digress. Carter and OPEC were either at odds or in cahoots. Gas lines were a block long and rationing was in effect. In Houston (it was on the way) we got low on gas. Pull over and wait in line, only to find out we couldn't buy gas that day because our license plate ended in an even number. It was an odd number day.
We drove as far on I-10 west as we dared looking for a station that had gas and was open. No luck. We finally stopped at a hotel.....no rooms to let.
A deputy stopped by and asked why we were standing around in the parking lot. He had a brother-in-law that worked at a station aways from the interstate. Called him up and had him get out of bed and meet us there.
We paid the going rate, no gauging.
I tried not to speed thru his town on the way back. Couple of nice guys.

I put $37.50 into my Cooper last night, that's a personal high mark for my MINI. I got over 340 miles out of that tank of gas, and that is with no highway miles, so I'm still happy!

I had to put in $35.00 yesterday, but then again, i was running on fumes when i pulled into the lot, and i used shell premium power. Shell thinks that they can charge more because they call it "V power."

this is in hunterdon NJ

$49.00 yesterday.

When I was a kid (a long time a go) I figured out that while the gas stations shut off the pumps at night, they didn"t lock the hoses (maybe they hadn't invented locks yet, I can't remember). We would ride around on our motorcycles at night "draining" the fuel left in the hoses. Would take a visit to three or four stations and you were filled. Rode for free for at least a year and a half!

Just our way of stickin' it to The Man.
