2006 MCS JCW area around shifter warm??

Question for those who have a 2006 mini with manual transmission.

Today I noticed when touching the chrome ring around the base of my shifter it felt a little warm. I touched the leather and parts of it felt warm.

Not sure if it has always been this way, I have had the car for 7 years and this is the first time I noticed. Its not hot, but slightly warm.

Has anyone else experienced this?? Trying to figure out what the cause is and if its normal.

I haven't checked yet to see if the exhaust or cat is right under there and perhaps a heat shield has fallen off or something.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The shifter is about dead center above the exhaust pipe. Would think you would get warmth there. I would double check to make sure the heat shield is still in place.

Mine gets warm as well, and it always has as long as I can remember. I wouldn't worry about it.

You'll get a bit of warmth at the shifter, but if the car has a short shifter on it they require the removal of the lower shift box cover with will make the shift box a bit warmer.
