R50/53 John Cooper Works S Performance Package.
#1
I just saw the survey on the front page of the site asking about the John Cooper Works S Performance Upgrade. This is the first that I have heard of such a package and would like to know a little more. What parts are involved in the upgrade? What HP is this package expected to put out? Is this package being offered elsewhere (other than the US), and if so how much is the upgrade, and does the factory warranty still apply?

Go to http://www.JohnCooper.co.uk to find out more info. But right now it seems that the only way to get it in the US is to order the parts and either do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you(like the dealership). If you live in the UK you could get it done by Your Dealer. It seems like though that even if you just buy the parts and install it yourself though that it comes with a warranty, but I have no idea if the standard factory warranty will still apply. I hope that dealers in the US begin to do this modification.

Below is an email that I received from John Cooper Works when inquiring about this very issue. My understanding is that the upgrades are coming to the US early next year. There will be several upgrades for both the Cooper and S...most notably, a HP/Torque upgrade for the S that will boost HP to around 200-205HP.

Hi all,
I know a little about the works package. I'm actually going down to spec my Works Cooper S at John Cooper Garages tommorow  . Hopefully It should arrive in September.
I'm not entirely sure what the status of the kits are for the US. I read some where they won't start modifying cars until Jan sometime for existing S owners.
Details of the upgrade are still being finalised. I've been told that my car will be between £3000 to £3500 on top of the normal Cooper S price. Performance wise it should be just over 200BHP.
When it turns up in 2 months, I'll post some pics and a review
Cheers

I have also spoken with the guys at Mini Mania. My Mini delear said I should contact them regarding the posssible works upgrade. In fact they had mentioned a possible partnership with the Works Garage for the US upgrades hopefully at a lower cost and maybe even available around September. They will be covered by full warrenty by and he also mentioned that he had assurances from the powers at be with BMW that they would not void the factory warrenty either.
